Shock horror, Lotus content on TGT!  To be fair I also thought it was really good.

Interesting that when they reviewed the Alpine they only mentioned the Cayman and TT as rivals - no mention of Lotus, or the Alfa 4C.

Meanwhile, on a comfy sofa in Chipping Norton:

Would I be right in saying it almost felt like a Top Gear tribute band, rather than a new program with anything new... at all?

TGT isn't even on TV over here anymore. Even if some of the shows aren't that great, be happy that you get it.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Well just watched it with my son, he is now looking up Jim Clark he is honestly blown away by it, the best TGT since the Lancia rally team one. They should really spend a lot more time on doing stuff like that than cock jokes. I thought Hammond done that with respect and a certain awe,

loved it

Yes I do know that TGT is not TG, that is why I wrote TGT. :)

Whenever I have gone looking, I only ever seem to find the TGT channel and only snippets/trailers of shows.

Well despite my earlier post, I did actually enjoy this latest episode and not just because they featured Jim Clark and Lotus, although that was the highlight obviously. I didn't even find the usually very annoying Hammond quite so bad in the Jim Clark piece either, although I still think that given his on track reputation, CTL were extraordinarily brave to let him loose in such an iconic car.

I have never seen anything before about Jim Clark.

I know the name obviously, but had really no idea how good he was.

Being an old bugger, I've been a Jim Clark fanboy since the very early 60's. It was obvious even to a youngster like me, as I was at the time, that JC was special and in a class of his own. I can recall feeling devastated on the day the news came in that he'd died at Hockenheim and didn't really believe it at first.

I remember I was changing the clutch on my sisters boyfriends car and had just nipped out to pick up some hydraulic fluid and upon returning, sisters boyfriend said he'd just heard it on the radio. For me it was one of those "remember what you were doing when you heard" moments. :(

Hell, I'm even old enough to clearly remember the Cuba crisis and the day JFK was shot! :)

@Spinney I bet you even remember the telephone! 🤣😂

I’ve got a very similar print to this picture, by Michael Turner, on my study wall. It’s one of my favourite pictures of my many motor sport related pics.

Thought the latest episode was a classic case of getting it wrong. They do this so often.

The China piece was a great idea and could have been done with some silliness but a semi-serious underlying thread because the concept of sending European cars to China is an interesting one, and there were some great shots of Chinas new roads.

But they totally ballsed it up, with that stupid firework thing which destroyed the cars paint. After that the whole thing was a waste of time.

Just watched the last episode of TGT (episode 14 tribute to Ford Modeo).

THANK GOD they are stopping! However crap Allegro Estates were at the time, I absolutely hate the way these guys have destroyed many 'classic cars' over the years.

Just because Hammond wants to be 'entertaining' about how upset he was as a kid that his dad came home in a new one, there's really no need to start smashing up 40 year old survivors (looking in good nick). My mum had a roman bronze Allegro Estate when I was a kid and it was actually one of the most reliable cars she had. I also think they were quite a cool design in a quirky kind of way. I know they aren't going to be to everyone's liking and that BL was pretty much a disaster but that isn't the cars' fault.

Rant over!

Is the price for that bit in Yen or £?

I completely agree. I greatly enjoy these three in the TG and Grand Tour but when they do that it just annoys me so much I want to get up and turn it off.

Its just stupid wanton destruction and completely unnecessary.

On the subject of the Allegro, it has become fashionable to slag it off but most cars of the 70's and early 80's were not very good, even their much-loved Fords. We had Escort fleet cars at the place I worked and the build quality of them was appalling. We even had one which was delivered with different trim level on one side of the car to the other!

Watched the new episode the other day, the one where they drive boats through Cambodia.

I have to say that, despite the lack of car content, I and the family thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not sure why Clarkson, May and Hammond chose to do these specials, thought. They look like bloody hard work.
