NW76 499
George: I know you had issues with the cables in the past and it well might be that again. I had the same in the past 2nd to 3rd on track mainly - and after installing the gearbox oil cooler I now know that it was due to excessive oil temps and the related overheating of the plastic parts of our gearbox... just a consideration. I should have done the GBOil Cooler way earlier.
mickv 17
Nice driving George. I see you too need to cant your right knee over to heel and toe. I find that a bit irritating. I'm surprised Lotus haven't thought about that and created a better shaped throttle pedal. I know there are after market solutions which someone posted a link to recently elsewhere on here. I need to put that on my list, but new seats come first. Years ago I had an Evo VI and that was the easiest car to heel and toe in without needing any mods - just a roll of the right foot onto the perfectly shaped right pedal was all it needed, and the brake pedal bite point was at just the right height too. Would have been lovely if Lotus sold a car which actually worked out of the box on track... 4 minutes ago, mickv said: Nice driving George. Yes, steering column gets in the way which is annoying. I could angle the seat back forward which would lower my legs but more angled back is more comfortable for long journeys... My last car was a Caterham, you didn't even need to think about heel & toe, it just happened it was that easy!

MartynB 244
Funny you should ask. This just turned up. 30mm spacer. Now just need a couple of brave pills to go messing with the steering wheel. Stupid long legs... i concur totally with George, heel and toe in the Caterham is night and day easier. Good amount of space and no servo assist on the brake. Will be driving the two back to back this evening, due to Caterham service time again.

I've got 24mm spaced on mine - means I can use 5th gear with gay abandon now Having watch the guy fit it, I certainly wouldn't try it myself. Not because of the airbag, but the spring winders that are inside - looks very easy to bugger them up! Quote '....it makes every other roadster look just a little bit cissy...' GFWilliams 1,996
I'm more tempted to go aftermarket so I can have a removable steering wheel to be honest. Should make it easier for my mate to get in and out when he's driving
Arun_D 741
Funnily enough last week I fitted a 20mm B&G spacer to work in conjunction with my new Tillett B6 (proper job!). Easy as pie to fit but of course I've already got a removable boss. Love my driving position and lateral support on track now. Steering wheel nice and close.

The airbag is bolted into the wheel. The wheel is bolted to a boss with 4 bolts and the watchsprings are behind that boss. Any idea why he didn't just stop there? Did he not realise he could unplug the airbag? I guess I'll find out when I try. ETA: let's move over onto your thread about this... Sorry George, didn't mean to hijack. MARTIN_S 115
I noticed that you mentioned that after a geo your steering wheel wobbles went from 65mph to 85mph. I had wobbles as well which the speed they vibrated were affected by the geo the same way (I had -1.5 degrees done by Bot the same as the 350 and necessary for Michelin Cup 2's), but, things were still not good and in the end decided that after two wheel balances it must be something wrong with the front tyres. They were in great nick so it was gutting to get rid of them. Even so, I then fitted new Michelins but it still had a continual light wobble at speed that just made the car feel unconnected. Finally I got someone I knew, who it turns out had his own wheel balancing equipment and, after an hour we got them really sorted (they were notably wrong) and the car is now good all round, smoother and more connected at all speeds. Most tyre fitters spend very little time on balancing so if you can find someone who will really take the time to do it right, its amazing the results you can get. I do agree, and it took three times before my original Pzeros were correctly balanced (and the rear wheels were totally unbalanced at first) ! it was fine then, but since I've put the new TD wheels with the Cup2s, a little wobble has reappeared ... I wanted to use a special balancing equipment, which is proven to be very efficient (Road Force Touch, from Hunter Engineering), but I finally couldn't find a workshop equipped with it in my area. the guys I asked for balancing are good chaps, and they told me the wheels were well casted, as they used little weights, but it seems they weren't able to do it perfectly ... PS: geo is ok...

GFWilliams 1,996
My friend is bringing my car out to Europe soon and I might not take it home until end of Summer as I'm now working in Italy most of summer. When back I'll buy new wheels and get the standard exhaust back on so I can do some more trackdays!

No, not yet ... built myself a block that I just put on top of the gas pedal and duck taped it ... much better... but still quite difficult to learn, in particular as the Exige is not my daily driver and my daily has a dual clutch ...
