The local bike shop has an retro lotus race bike and I was planning on borrowing that for a few photos on the roof of my car! @62dave is it a Sport 110 or Sport 108? If so, can you let me have details of which bike shop has got it. I help run the Sport 110 Club and we maintain a register of bikes, so always keen to check if there are ones spotted that we don't know about. We've found about half of the roughly 250 that were built.

Popular Post GFWilliams
Okay, that's enough about bikes for now... A while ago, I started planning for my respray. Part of the plan was to do 430 Cup louvres, which I sourced from @Seriouslylotus (he sells them on his site). They arrived and would work perfectly, but I had an idea and got talking to a mate who does carbon work. So I sent them to him... He made a mould... Then with proper prepreg carbon (not crappy skinned!) he made these This is how it looked straight out of the mould without any work, quite impressive. I decided I wanted the weave to be straight from front to back instead of 45 degree angle, so a second set were made which were pulled out of the mould today! Very happy with how they look, only slight issue now is that to fit them I need to respray the car... Which I don't really want to do anymore. Hmm. (before anyone asks, no, I don't want to sell them) 2
Five50
George - did you get your Leather steering wheel recovered in alcantara - or did you have to buy a new one from Lotus? would like to retrim to Alcantara but wondering if the shape allows...
GFWilliams
@Five50 - I only got the outer bit retrimmed in alcantara as Royal Steering Wheels who did it didn’t want to do the inner bit. If you use a better trimmer, it is possible to do the full wheel in alcantara. I suggest either D:Class or KrossstitchUK
Five50
Cheers G - tbh I hadn’t noticed that the inner part wasn’t covered
3eighty
For what its worth, it looks like the Lotus factory Alcantara wheels are also leather on the inside - maybe its easier to preserve the detail design that way: https://www.topspeed.com/cars/lotus/2017-lotus-exige-cup-430-ar178286.html I might just go with that. Message sent to Krossstitch UK - thank you. Edited June 7, 2020 by 3eighty

DMH83
Love the attention to detail as always George on the carbon version of the 430 cup Louvre, if you not wanting to respray what’s your plan on having these fitted? i know you said you can’t respray sections to the liquid yellow...can you not respray the full front clam, or will this still stand out and not match the liquid yellow On the test of the car? cheers duncan
GFWilliams
@DMH83 - plan is simply to wait until I can do things properly
GFWilliams
Bike is done... I know not that related to the car, but it shows what the car would have been with the pink paint we mixed up from scratch. This forum mutes the colour a little, but I love how it looks combined with the anthracite. I'm a real lover of attention to detail, so I modified the new lotus logo a bit to make the design a bit nicer to my tastes, then got Ken to do it all in Anthracite so it has a lovely metallic in it. Of course, it's all under the lacquer so you can't feel it and no horrible vinyl on the bike!

Popular Post GFWilliams
Been lucky enough to be driving round in this 993 Turbo for the last 3 weeks, now it's gone I might actually drive the Exige again! Quite interesting to compare the two cars, the 993 is a brilliant car to drive, the steering is fantastic, and it is so usable compared to the Exige, but it doesn't quite have the directness of the Exige. I've considered selling the Exige a few times recently as I've had it nearly 4 years now and I'm not driving it as much as I used to, but I can't think of anything else which will be as fun to drive without going down the Caterham or Nomad route, which both lose practicality and mean I can't use them as much day to day. So Exige is staying for the foreseeable I think, the finance is all paid off, so it doesn't cost an awful lot to run unless I start doing lots of miles again. In a year or two I think I'll buy another project car to go along side the Exige. 6
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted August 10, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted August 10, 2020 Jeez, just looked up the values of those 993 Turbos. OMG......! GFWilliams
@C8RKH - This is a Gemballa Turbo, so has a carbon kevlar composite body and more power (and a lot more LAG). I don't know the value, but it's a lot more than a regular Turbo. The more scary thing is the 993 GT2 I also drove is worth £1.1m...
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted August 10, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted August 10, 2020 Wow. That Gemballa is a lovely looking motor car. I do like the more focused Porsche cars (turbo's and GT cars) but just can't get my head around the more modern range with the likes of the Panabarge, the Skipenne etc. Quote I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. Popular Post Jack
I owned a 993 Turbo....fun road car, but no match for any of the Lotus cars I've owned when it came to track duty. Given its increase in value since 1997, wish I would have kept it long term--- lots of Porsche Exclusive Options, like carbon fibre, paint to sample "Ferrari Gelb" and a few more ..... 3 2 Quote Jack2008 2-Eleven2015 Exige V6 CupR Track videos ... http://www.youtube.com/jackcup2010 Lotus Challenge Series ULTRA Class champion2012 Lotus CUP USA OPEN Class champion
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted August 10, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted August 10, 2020 Another bloody lovely 993 Turbo! If this carries on I'll have to buy a Porsche (an old one, not a new one!) GFWilliams
So who knows what this is and why it’s a much better way of doing it than the way Lotus did it? (True tesct of geekiness!)

GFWilliams
@C8RKH - nope, they’re the exhaust backbox hangar brackets. Each time I’ve changed the backbox it’s been a nightmare to try to align the bolts as the retaining nuts move inside the subframe. So I put a bolt all the way through the retaining nuts, used permanent locktight, then use a nut on the exhaust side. Makes it significantly quicker and easier to change the exhaust. I know it’s very geeky, but the little things make a difference. I should explain the reason behind doing this. For a while, I’ve had two 2bular exhausts. One which was nonvalved, decat and LOUD, one which is valved, with a cat and quietish. I wanted my loud system to be valved and so I’ve bought a 410 Stainless exhaust which I will run with a decat link pipe. Hopefully it’s fairly quiet with the valve closed and then nice and noisy with the valve open. We’ll see once it’s fitted. Oh, and I’m doing a little mod to the exhaust tip to make it look a bit nicer...
Arun_D
I hate it when captive nuts aren't as captive as you'd like. Nice little modification that will make your life significantly easier. Oh, and happy birthday!!
