ChrisJ 1,489
@Lex Templar Is the white one a dry sump as it looks like it has the later front indicators.

I'm just referring to the red car in the pics..
LOTUSMAN33 1,470
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114453739970 I think this may be or have been a dry sump Lex being a June 82 on a W reg JAN680W I have messaged him to ask. dr_jayhart 81
yeah I thought that too shame there is no picture of the engine bay.
stephenwhyte 1,973
Pretty sure I remember early photos of a white Dry Sump with a JAN reg number🤔 Interesting that the rear side window has AEL638X etched on it🤔
LOTUSMAN33 1,470
Maybe private plate, yes we have JAN445W 0939 on the register Good spot with the etching, it could be an early wet sump 👍🏻 Dave 2 Quote Do or do not, there is no try!

HC engine, re-trimmed black. Still trying to find the new owner here in Australia. It sold in 2018 for the equivalent of £15,000 at auction after it wasn’t advertised as anything special. If it still had it’s dry sump lump I would have bought it. Also all the original leather had been replaced and not correctly. It’s a hot looking thing though. LOTUSMAN33 1,470
Nice Lex, if that ever turns up let me know as I would love to bring that one home 😉 Dave Quote Do or do not, there is no try!
RichardJGC 381
If registered 31 Dec 82....that would be a Y plate.....if DVLA have got the correct date.
LOTUSMAN33 1,470
The vehicle check online shows it registered June 82 so should be an X plate , the MOT check often shows the wrong registration info. Dave 1 Quote Do or do not, there is no try!

I think you guys should get one back over there, you have lost all the good ones. If properly restored it would be a very special car but it’s a really good runner in the meantime. I was lucky enough to drive it - my first Esprit drive. I drove one of the 3 Australian delivered Sport 300 here about 6 months later It was for sale for $55,000 AU - I didn’t quite appreciate what it was in 2010 unfortunately as I had eyes only for a Bond car.

Dave That's an odd advert. If I understand it correctly, it's not for sale for £20k but Mr Pallet Racking is asking if anybody will restore it for him for £20k. Lex Templar 348
yes indeed @Bazza 907 I had to re-read that myself. Perhaps he could get some mechanicals done for that price. @LOTUSMAN33 I dare say it wont be leaving for a while! I don't think any sized cheque will stop it leaving eventually though.. I'm sure @Bazza 907understands. 😉
LOTUSMAN33 1,470
No I totally agree Lex, that car has definitely found its perfect home for its dream owner, it’s the spec and colour you’ve been hunting for years. SJ will do a lovely job as well so you should have trouble free motoring ahead. 1 Quote Do or do not, there is no try!
Fridge 977
£20,000 including profit (I assume the car's for the seller - weird advert)? Dream on. Depending upon the quality of work and what needs replacing, the parts alone required to put that back into a reasonable state could almost come to that. 1
LOTUSMAN33 1,470
I agree with David, he may cover the interior and paint but any serious mechanical work would be well outside the budget. He has confirmed its a wet sump car. Dave 1 Quote Do or do not, there is no try!
stephenwhyte 1,973
Here’s a Dry Sump that I’ve had pictures of, for 10 years.....but had forgotten all about. I thought it was maybe the one mentioned above currently on eBay.....but it’s not, and as we know now it’s a Wet Sump. I made enquiries about the one below when it was for sale, but not heard or seen anything about it since. Anyone else know the car?
LOTUSMAN33 1,470
1230, was owned by Zazaa on here Stephen with a sunroof fitted. Dave 2 Quote Do or do not, there is no try!
stephenwhyte 1,973
Ha....I remember that one - in fact it was pictured in that ad on a post here in the last few days. Interesting that it’s numbered after mine which is 1193.....but still a Dry Sump, but will be because it has Air-Con. Never clicked it was that one - great to see. Looks pretty good too and better with the black bumpers - I remember the ad as it was missing it’s boot lock at the time. Funny the things that stick over the years. Thanks Dave
LOTUSMAN33 1,470
It does look much better with the black bumpers and sits well, like you these cars become quite familiar after 25 years of following adverts, club meets, forums and ownership. I’m not a fan of the 80’s added sunroofs but certainly nothing that can’t be fixed. I would get those mirrors painted black as well. Dave 1 Quote Do or do not, there is no try! Lex Templar 348
An interesting document outlining the changeover points for wet sumps, no a/c, a/c and ROW. Is it from the service manual? first Domestic heater wet sump 1193 @stephenwhyte first Domestic a/c wet sump 1261 first ROW wet sump 0399 And outlining all Federal cars were wet sump. I'lll add 1261 and 0399 as milestones in register. Cheers, Lex Wet sump change point.pdf
dr_jayhart 81
What a coincidence I got this from Andy Graham today too. I wrote to him because I have one of the new Lotus Heritage certificates of provenance packages and it does not say my car is a dry sump. I wrote to him about it and he sent me this reply attached. It is my understanding that early wet sumps had no facility for air con and so if it was requested you got a dry sump engine is that right? It did say however that the build should have a board in the passenger footwell for an amplifier and so i wonder if the dealership fitted my roof stereo? Many thanks, Jay
