Alternator

Hello

I recently purchased an 86 Esprit Turbo...fun car! The alternator died and the car did afterwards...no, fuel pump, gauges, etc. A new Lotus alternator requires selling a lung, so mine is being rebuilt. There must be a cross reference alternator by some manufacturer somewhere. Any help.

I thought they were Bosch units, When mine died, I took the alt from an 88 Audi 5000 parts car. It was direct, bolt in. I carry adjustable regulators in my repair shop for those who want to optimize voltage levels.

Then again you could do a radical alternative:

It weighs less than 6lbs! capable of 50 amps.

I am currently running a much larger unit because of the electric water pump, an aux water pump, 14" cooling fan, crank triggered ign etc.

Cheers, Lee

The alternator factory installed in my 1983 federal Turbo Esprit is manufactured by Motorola.

I had it rebuilt with new components for $80 CDN.

I've got an old 4 cylinder chevy s-10 which is supposed to be the same as the capri motor... i'm gonna check that out.. though i'm pretty sure it's not right... hopefully some of the guts are the same though

My 1984 USA Federal car has a Motorola Alternator...its been acting flaky, so I was thinking of investigating

putting in a 100A new Bosch Alternator. The Lucas for Bosch alternator swap worked great in my TR7

and improved lighting when at idle. But right now its very cold here -10C or about 12F, so its too

cold to tinker in the garage to see if the mechanical mounting points are the same dimensions.

I had a Lucas alternator which was replaced by a Motorola when it packed up. Got mine form SJSportscars. Don't seem to remember it being too expensive, about
