sunroof car--> no value!!!   unrestored-no chassis pics = rear crossmember most likey shot

They are all good, worst case get rid of the sun roof. It can be fixed. Price versus available fund's versus what it needs.

I like the sunroof in my Elite. A bit harsh suggesting its worthless. Anyway, I didn't think we spoke about sunroofs anymore.

I would think it's the wrong time of year, and is a late elite worth more than a more usable excel ? If it was road tax free (pre 76 it might be) and you

Always have the worry about the rust by the second original chassis.... ie not galvanised.

In the current market, an elite in good condition is worth more than an excel.

the respective merits of each are a debate for a different time, but good elites are rare - good excels are common.

totally disagree. personal preference, and I have one with and one without, and the sunroof makes the cabin a nicer more airy place to be.

I am not sure if we can assume that based on no pictures of the chassis?

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

The advert does say

Quote

They even waxoyled it each and every year – so there’s no chassis rust and the original chassis is in perfect condition.

I think it looks very nice, and the advert seems honest. The current owner has had if 5 years and has put 5000 miles on it, so it has been used over the recent years, which is a good thing.

That was why they were so popular back in the eighties... My family had two cars done and the fitters gave a receipt for a windscreen so it came off the insurance.

look...a sunroof can be done / installed, so that it suits the car´s lines... but it can be also done that it destroys the shape /look of the car.

e.g.: a flush mounted sunroof might look like factory fitted, or at least it gives the impression that somebody has choosen a quality product.

in that (and unforutnatly in most cases) with sunroof-ed elite/eclat/excel, it has been done with a cheapish roof from halfords or tesco, which sticks out the roof-line, where spares arent available anymore and it already migh have started leaking, also most likey the "real" reason behind fitting such a roof was the sagging headliner.

such roofs are a no-go on classic-cars!!!

and we are talking here about a car where the owner wants 7k!!!! a double no-go in that price range.

my expirience with waxoyled cars:

the waxoyl nicely covers all the defects and blemishes...if you start removing it the desaster becomes visible.

the condition of the rear crossmember area cannot be checked from underneath, as it rusts from the top. even a freshly mot-ed car might suffer from the typcal crossmember -rot

i have seen several cars which looked "still ok" (not fine) and when the body was lifted it became visible that next to nothing was left from the top of the x-member.

and the most worst, which branded in my mind, was a 1 owner car, with 35.000 original miles, sold and maintained by a loltus main dealer. the car needed a chassis after 15years (and nobody knows how many mot´s it has passed where the rot was not visible from bottom)....just to remind: 35.000 miles, 1 owner car!!!
