Chillidoggy
Steve, have you done a search on TLF? I'm pretty sure all the spring rates were posted up a while ago, maybe by @MrDangerUS? 1 Quote Margate Exotics.

Failiure to get them spot on will seriously affect the handling characteristics. 8 hours ago, Chillidoggy said: Steve, have you done a search on TLF? Thanks Ian, I've had a look through the V8 technical suspension section, but couldn't find anything in the headings that stood out. I'll have a more detailed look later. If it was you @MrDangerUS your input would be much appreciated.

Gold FFM Popular Post Steve V8 Posted April 1, 2018 Author Gold FFM Popular Post Report Share Posted April 1, 2018 Today it was time to tackle a seized rear hub lower link, the pin had spent 22 years cosying up to the hub, with new Lotac bushes everywhere but, and a note of the seizure from Bell & Colville, this was a much feared job. Thanks to this forum, with various members own experiences, tackling this job knowing what to expect, and expecting the worse made it doable. So here's how it went. The lower links are being renewed so it made life easier just cutting them away. Managed to free the unbushed shock side with heat and drawing out by tightening nuts against spacers and washers, but the stud in the split bushing wasn't budging, finally stripped the thread off the pin so had to drill. Taken out to 10mm biggest bit I had, still wouldn't budge, so now having a hole big enough to get a junior hacksaw through to cut slots in the remaining bolt edges. Then slot the split bushing and gently tap it out. So that took biggest part of a day, but that's one side done, the other side will be easier now I know what to expect. Roll on ARB bushes.

eeyoreish
Well done Steve! I remember well doing my offside to replace a bent link. Exact same procedure but with the hub still on the car. Needless to say the nearside is still untouched... Quote Not worth starting anything now...🍺

Not a job I'd attempt in situ, I suppose it depends how seized seized is, mine was solid. 27 minutes ago, Chillidoggy said: Piece of piss. Gold FFM Popular Post Steve V8 Posted April 3, 2018 Author Gold FFM Popular Post Report Share Posted April 3, 2018 I'm was proud of my freehand drilling, this is what remains of the stud, 10mm bit through 3 inches of the 12mm stud without breaching the sides. In hindsight it would have probably come out easier if drilled on a slight angle into the split bush as I still had to hacksaw a slot in it to free it. Any tips on how to get the inner bearing race off the hub?
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted April 4, 2018 Gold FFM Report Share Posted April 4, 2018 Same way - cut slots into it. Angle grinder or dremmel Quote Only here once
Chillidoggy
If you mean the rear wheel bearing, they’re fixed with cap head bolts accessible through the flange holes, and come out as one piece. 1 Quote Margate Exotics.

Gold FFM Popular Post Steve V8 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Gold FFM Popular Post Report Share Posted May 20, 2018 Not much left of Lola now, I just couldn't live with the galvanic oxidation on this chassis, looked like it'd been driven through wet concrete for 20 years. Below one of the chassis rails, top half wire brushed back to decent zinc, bottom half, look at the state of it. So here's the lovely clean chasis, And here's where most of the muck ended up. 2

Gold FFM Steve V8 Posted May 28, 2018 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 28, 2018 Friday, chassis (and me) soaked in extremely toxic POR15 metal prep and kept wet for 2 hours before rinsing in clean water. Saturday, brilliant day at Castle Coombe then 1 coat of POR15 rust preventive. Sunday, 3 coats POR15 top coat Result superb, am I bothered about corrosion, not half as bothered as I was with skanky 22 year old galvanised steel. Anyone that has used POR15 will tell you, it's much better and harder than powdercoat.

Gold FFM Steve V8 Posted June 3, 2018 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted June 3, 2018 PINK BOTTOM, no spank you. The bottom of our Esprits (well mine anyway), is a bit of a let down, so as virtually everything has been removed from the underside of my car I've enjoyed a weekend of washing, rubbing and spraying my pink bottom. Why aren't these painted or undercoated?
