Sound / Heat deadening...

Any recomendations ?

I need to re-kit the white car out after stripping the interior, need something sturdy (easy to cut, glue in) and cheap hehe.

On the same note anyone now anything about the vynil style of coating used on the GT3 / V8GT interior ? I could send some of the interior back to Lotus for recovering but wheres the fun in that ?

Here's what one of my Lotus buddies here in the States has done with the leather in his 89Esprit.

Do it yourself...

And I suggest you look into creating a technique of creating your own room temp Aerogel...

Aerogel is the lightest solid known, has the most surface area, slowest speed of sound for any material, and is the best insulator... :sofa:

These guys actually make aerogel fabrics for mountaineering and space suits... Should work for an Esprit, and no weight penalty... Lighter is better.

Achieve 2-8 times the insulation value for the same thickness compared to traditional materials

Increase internal volume within the same external dimensions

No degradation of thermal values over time

Easy installation

Continuous use temperatures polymer-based insulation can

Though I love that Aerogel... I'm unsure of the cost.. What I've found was at home depot. It's a waterproof, weatherproof carpet underlay that is extremely dense and only weighs about 2 lbs for a 6 foot by 9 foot roll. The other part of my equation was to put new heat reflective tape on the fire-wall, also from home depot.

Modifying esprit's.. now that's fun..

LOL - I'm not made of money ! :)

I'm going to try some of this stuff out :

http://www.secondskinaudio.com/cgi-bin/ind...i?p=ps&pg=3

0.063kg/m2 is bloody light and whilst it might not be the best stuff it's got that advantage as well as acting as a padding.

A lot of products were coming in at 3KG/m2 !!! I might do a few sections such as the wheel arches in this good stuff but considering most of the noise is happening behind you I think on a whole it's going to be a waste of additional weight.

I have a good comparison in the GT3, even at top speed that car is pretty good, the biggest noise makers are the tyres and the windage on the frames and the body shape.

Anyone inquire about the cost of the Aerogel?

I've just found this on the JPL site. It works out at $1000 per litre  . I assume that's in its expanded state. Shame, I quite liked the idea of using it to replace the heavy plywood firewall that's currently flapping away behind my seat.

More speed, less haste

Again.. the foam from Home Depot... dirt cheap and ridiculously light!
