Do you experience the 'whistling' noise that we've commented on further up the thread?  I am wondering if it is the lead edge of the 4" tube blowing about as the air passed over it and it just gets drowned out as the induction noise kicks in.

I have NO whistling noise from the BOE CAI, (nor anywhere else).

You might be correct that it is the tie wrapped edge of the 4" flex hose that is vibrating in the air at a high frequency causing the whistle.

The 4" aluminum tube installation is an easy modification, that I think is an all around better install.

So if I understand correctly, the Aluminium tube goes in here.  What length of tube did you use?

Long shot, but is there anything obviously wrong with the install?  I didn't do it myself (hence no good photo) at it was £60 labour whilst the car was in for an MOT so can't be sure that the instructions were followed to the letter!

As far as I can tell from your photos, your CAI install looks correct. Yes, the aluminum tube connects to the side scoop you have shown.

"I secured a piece of 4" diameter aluminum tubing into the side fender air inlet with a hose clamp. The aluminum tubing piece is 2.5" long, and clamped onto the bottom lip of the fender inlet, extending into the inlet but NOT covering the lower drainage slot. 
The 4" flexible hose that goes from the fender inlet to the air cleaner is then positively held in place over the aluminum tubing, rather than just held in by a tie wrap crossing through holes punctured into the flex hose as indicated in the BOE instructions."

You can see how BOE shows the connection to the side scoop with a tie wrap through punctured holes in the flex tubing on page 10 here.  https://www.dropbox.com/s/rgmdtojgenox8cq/BOE Evora CAI-Instructions0317.pdf?dl=0     Notice the gap on the upper half between the flex tubing and the side scoop.

@Bobsy Racer many thanks for your additions to the thread and the "pipe mod" looks like an excellent idea. A shame BOE could not adopt in their kit as the extra cost would be negligible.  Have you considered any of the BOE "tuning kits". The stage 3 offering up an extra 113wbhp would turn the NA into a fantastic performer, probably equivalent to the S with the Komotec 390 kit when you consider the lower weight and better ride of the NA. That sort of performance from a normally aspirited V6 would be super smooth I would hope. Want lots, shame I live in the Uk and not in the US. 

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

I have looked at the BOE Stage 1, 2, and 3 Tunes. There are some questions whether the Tunes will pass California Smog Emissions testing.

The stage 3 tune requires taking your car to BOE in Kansas, which is 1,600 MILES from San Diego, AND leaving it for 4 weeks, for them to install the cams, headers, and tune, which would not be readily reversible for smog inspection if necessary.

At this time, Stage 2 requires sending your ECU to BOE for re-flashing, and still has the CA. smog question. Stage 2 is designed for the BOE Headers, with longer primaries, so I'm not sure how that would work with the 2bular headers. I'm reluctant to spend $2,500 to change my Headers again.

BOE is supposed to be making the stage 1 and 2 Tunes available for OBII re-flashing by the consumer in the future, with the ability to go back to the OEM Lotus tune any time. I would likely try the Stage 2 Tune if it was OBII flash-able and reversible.

agree with you re new headers, don't see why I should change the 2bular.

Obviously Kansas is a long way from Scotland so will watch re the OBII flashes.  Thanks again.

The BOE Stage 2 Tune looks feasible once the OBII re-flashing becomes available.  It is more than just a mixture adjustment.  Hopefully it will work with 2bular Headers, OR they can adjust it for them.

From the BOE website:

"The Stage 2 setup really wakes the Evora up with upwards of 295whp! The tune is significantly altered from both stock and the Stage 1 tune to compliment the BOE tuned headers.  Stage 2 is a 3 part package consisting of the tune, headers, and intake. 

Please note that a straight though muffler is worth about 5-8 whp over the stock Evora muffler at this power level.

You MUST be running a BOE CAI. No other intake will be supported.

The mapping is specifically designed for the BOE tuned headers. The cam phasing, ignition advance and fueling is all very specific for these headers. The headers come with Stage 2. 

We have modified everything from temperature compensations, spark curves, fuel curves, throttle ramps, intake cam timing, exhaust cam timing, "Sport Mode" settings, and the list goes on! "

So, a productive if ultimately futile Saturday afternoon.  Good news is that my mechanically minded friend and I are now very fast at getting the wheel & wheel arch liner off and back on.

Cutting the tube, easy with a hacksaw

You don't need to remove the inspection panel when taking out the wheel arch liner, just the 6 plastic screws holding it in place.

Fitting the tube, we had to take it all apart for a 2nd time as after the 1st try we found that the aluminium tube went up into the flexible hose, gaffer tape solved that on the 2nd try.

Didn't have long enough hose clamp so went with a couple of cable ties, seems to do the job well enough.

Still whistles :angry:

 

Next diagnostic step is to remove the flexible hose all together for a quick test run to see if it is that causing the whistle.

I would say that is just induction noise that you will get with a CAI at low speeds and gentle throttle.  My radium set up does the same, but the sucking noise changes to more of a roar when you are fully booting it.

It's entirely possible, in which case I'll have to decide whether to live with it or not.  My only other experience is with the Hurricane on my old Elise which had what I always thought or as a sharp intake of breath as throttle was applied but no whistling.

I have a silicon pipe & metal pipe combo, flex hose completely eliminated. The sucking or induction noise (like in the video) at low throttle is still there so I don't think it was due to the flex hose

I have the boe cai fitted to my n/a, I also have the slight whistle you mention, always thought this was more of a short woosh than a whistle and presumed that the intake airspeed was either causing the intake mesh to resonate or something else like the connection tube as mentioned, would never go back to the original one.

I have the BOE on my N/A as well and I followed @Bobsy Racer's handy tip and used a small alu pipe with a hose clamp - I have the whistling noise at low throttle as well. However, I have always assumed this is just a characteristic of the BOE sucking in tons of air.

In terms of performance I'm not sure how much of a difference it has made - I have done about 3k miles on it since getting it and it seems to have got a bit punchier over time (ECU learning...or maybe just placebo effect?!). Anyways the top end roar is worth every penny!

I am upgrading from the Evora NA to the 400

does anyone have any idea if the BOE CAI can be modified to work with the 400, and any idea if this will improve the performance 

I see no intake for the 400 on the market is there a reason for that

I believe Julian73 has indicated that the current BOE CAI is not set up for the 400.  (BOE used his car back in 2013 to develop their CAI.)

He has a 410 on order, and stated that he will use his car again as the "400/410 guinea pig" sometime in the fall to develop a new CAI.

So that clips on to the other BOE bits, and then the angled section meets the intake scoop in front of the rear wheel?
