I recall reading that tripe when I was a student. Colossally hard work to get through and fundamentally a load of bollocks.

Isn't this something one whom bats for the other team takes in tablet form to stop the dying from the old bum love ?

Just looked the book up on Wikipedia- looks like yet another load of old shite written by someone whom frankly should have put a bit more effort in.

socialism - a definition of - a lazy mans excuse for under achievement coupled with the belief the world owes them a living

I'd just like to point out you forgot the bit about anyone that might have made any money should be falling over themselves to give it away, thereby removing any incentive to better themselves.

But they would have got that money by simply exploiting and treading all over those who are repressed:thumbsup:

There is an understandable but fundamental misconception that you all adopt here. You are firing flaming bazookas  at an invisible target that you call "Socialism".

We are just told that household savings are at their lowest since the 1970s running at 1.7% of income. No-one can say that is a healthy state of affairs in our free enterprise society. Personal cerdit is running out of control with all the stress and depression that defaulting brings to a household.

(Of course one problem with Capitalism is that you run out of public assets to flog off to your megarich mates, but that`s another story).

The fundamental misconception you seem intellectually content to run with  is that "Socialism" these days means everyone gets to own everything equally and consequently "waste" it equally.

That was probably true for the year 1960 in a third world country - but not here in the UK -and never here in the UK.

There is no serious socialist for decades who wishes to nationalise and collectivize everything. That has not worked-(I clearly don`t have to convince you of that ! )

The bone of contention here is that if you think that Corbyn wants to do that you are quite simply wrong. It used to be the case in this country that parties adhered to their manifestoes from a sense of honour and integrity. It would take a colossal betrayal amounting to a rejection of the foundation of democracy itself if Corbyn started acting like Chairman Mao in relation to the economy. (A great script for a film by the way, but fantasy nonetheless).

Of course the Tories have performed several U-turns from their manifesto commitments but they only ever care for democracy when its going their way.

The setup in Scandinavian countries is one that should and will be sought to be emulated. Technically thats called "left social democracy" not "Socialism" . Bringing Communism into it is an utter red (obviously) herring. Marxism has much to offer in terms of economic analysis but has very little to offer politically as a solution except in the broadest sense of providing education health and welfare for all. If you read what Marx proposed as a political solution there`s sod-all. I would be the first to agree that you don`t achieve educatioon health and welfare for all simply by chucking money at it (though it certainly needs more chucked at it).

Economies of scale apply. Key industry requiring targetted investment and co-ordination needs a national plan especially as we are leaving the EU. The hairdresser or (these days) coffee shop down the high street does not and never needed such a plan. The workshop manufacturing plumbing accessories does not need such a plan. The corporation employing thousands ? Well, maybe that does, especially if whole towns are reliant on its existence.

Ahhh rose tinted glasses socialism I get it.

the reality is very different

we have Kev and Chesney who can't be bothered and will never work as it's generationally accepted and never challenged - they smash Tiffany senseless as she fancies a free ride as well - and so the state picks up the bill for this utter lack of responsibility.

we have fat Eric and Julie - who have bad knees and hypertension - a free car, magic money tree in the lounge and just sponge relentlessly in free adaptations to their house to make it ok for them.

then we have pablo who's a fighting age man running away from his country of birth like the yellow coward he is - we just welcome him with open arms and throw him handfuls of money.

All the while - lets tax the crap out of the working man - that devil of society whom has grafted his whole life and has accumulated through sweat and graft some property and savings - he's scum, rich and exploitative of society - he needs taxing to death and his wealth spread around.

im sorry - but the system is utter bollox. If something isn't done the scum like Kev, chesney, Tiffany, fat Eric and Julie just double every 16years

Hang on a minute.....didn't the Labour manifesto include renationalisation of the railways and utilities? I thought that was the Corbyn grand plan, wasn't it? Maybe I missed something, that has to be it.

They'll no doubt be the subject of a Channel 4 documentary , and get paid for it. John Snow would be the perfect presenter following his disgraceful Glasto performance. That should keep them in Kestrel and pizza for a few weeks.

Surely that has as much to do about the low interest rates as anything else

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lies,_damned_lies,_and_statistics

Successive governments of all colours have always spun the truth to tell the story they like.

its all shit. If you want to get on in this country you can - but the left will try to shoot you down when you do get on.....

Credit of the unsecured type needs stamping on and damn hard. Payday loans first and then credit card companies - followed by catalogues and store cards. The young should get more access to secured mortgages without the pishe that's currently going on

1.7% of income

I'm sure it's of GDP.

I'm also sure that 40% of people have less than £100 tucked away, which is rather scary.

FFS if people are so stupid they live way beyond their means and run up such huge debt then more fool them. If people don't tuck some emergency cash away then more fool them.

I have a friend who is always complaining she has no money. She goes out shopping 3 or 4 times a week. She has shoes still in boxes unworn. Loads of them. She has clothes still with the tags on. All unworn. Loads of them. She has loads of money it's just that as she gets it she feels she has to spend it. Even on stuff she doesn't need.

I feel sorry for the people who genuinely have no spare money and worry from day to day if they have enough cash to buy food. Or pay the bills. Just to survive. That's bloody stressful, a real shit place to be.

But many of the people referred to here are in debt to their eyeballs because they are stupid. I have money. I worry how to make ends meet but they hVe 2 expensive cars, nice expensive branded clothes and 2 holidays a year.  FFS people like that deserve no sympathy and deserve all their self induced stress and deserve the pain that comes with defaulting and they don't deserve my taxes to bail them out!

Tell you what Barry you are 100% right on this payday loan stuff, I saw something on the tv the other day and I might bE making this up but the APR was something like 1004%. Now how any Govenment can allow that to happen is beyond me.

The people who take out these "loans" have absolutely no idea what they are doing so it needs to be stopped. I hate to think what happens if you miss a payment. In fact I don't think you should be able to get a loan under £1000. The max interest rate needs to be fixed. The fact these companies can afford to advertise on TV tells you something.

If I was in power that would be the first thing I would do, then obviously free up the outside lane of the M25 to Lotus owners and people I like only ?

To be fair, women are genetically programmed to buy shoes even though they don't need them. They just can't help it, and indeed will even give brand-new shoes away they've found still boxed in the back of the wardrobe and haven't worn, to charity shops.

Ian, after another pair of shoes turned up last week, I went and counted 57 pairs. I have 3 pairs of desert boots a couple of pairs of work shoes, 2 pairs of trainers and some steel toe caps for site.

Told her if anymore turn up I am going to dig out my Black and white Jam shoes from the loft and wear them everywhere ?

Dan

Sadly this happens as some of our members of parliament actually own very large stake holds in these rip off payday loan companies.

You have to remember that these are the same scumbags that stole lots of the tax payers money in the expenses scandal that has long been forgotten and swept under the carpet with no criminal charges handed out. If the shoe was on the other foot though normal folks would be sitting in prison right now for such crimes.

So no chance the government will stop these firms as some mp s know no shame unfortunately !

There is also a very interesting article in the Sunday Times today about JC's vision of Britain now reflecting back to the 70's if you have the paper read it. It is in main paper and about why it won't work, I remember the 70s and having Sunday dinner without any meat and my parents struggling with their mortgage.

Well worth a read

Payday loans have been capped on fees - but it isn't enough. The puppets need stringing up and the companies dissolved. They are an absolute disgrace. The trouble is the dumb will take out the loan no matter what to go out and get pissed and do a load of columbian marching powder on a weekend. These dumb idiots need saving from themselves
