Popular Post Simon on tour
I washed it as promised. Fitted a new battery and ran the car for a few hours. All the squeaks from the auxiliary belt aria have disappeared. Maybee grease/oil on the belts was the problem. No fault coads appeared, to my surprise. I will insure and tax the car. And give it another drive.

I am not slagging you off. I know how hard it is to earn the coin to buy one of these fantastic cars, that's why I wonder why have it sitting for a year. I think most would agree that long before that I would have had some serious words with the supplier/dealer or as a last result traded it for something which you prefer. I hope you get some kind of result and put this down to bad experience, as with the best will in the world there will always be one bad car that sickens people. It may be a Lotus, a Roller, a Bently a Porker or a Mini. That one bad car does not make a bad company. Good luck with your outcome.
Gold FFM JayEmm Posted May 5, 2017 Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 5, 2017 Regards engine bay, etc @Simon on tour, I've found if you look at the Lotus as a half price McLaren/Ferrari, you'll get on with it a lot better than trying to see it as a Porsche alternative. Porsche's design is very good, but then it should be as they've been hammering away at the same shape for over fifty years. I've driven plenty of 911s which were hideous. And plenty I loved, too. Your car does sound a little like it's in need of an Italian tune-up. Get some miles on it, leaving it standing definitely won't help. If you want a pair of squeak free seats, give me a PM 1 Quote James Martin (JayEmm) Director of Photography & Car Enthusiast Follow my Lotus adventure online! www.jayemm.com

Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted May 5, 2017 Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 5, 2017 My vivaro was in for its first service this week. Bloody seat squeaks - I've never noticed it but now the technician has pointed it out it's doing my head in. It's gotta go back for a new seat base and two new front struts as the knocking when dropping down off a kerb is an issue - how longs it been like that the tech asked ? Umm since the day it was delivered ......... the esprit is back together now if you are up for the swap 1 Quote Only here once
Gold FFM Popular Post Dan E Posted May 5, 2017 Gold FFM Popular Post Report Share Posted May 5, 2017 Barry, you should have bought a Merc Vito Auto with comfort seats. I am currently in a hotel in Nottingham after driving it for 4 hours in it I swear it is the most comfortable van/car i have ever owned. I got last inline of the last model (just checking I am on topic here aren't I) so was cheaper than a transit. Simon i have sympathy for you, but we are all here to help but we are passionate about our cars, the members on here will help with any problem and a few have leads into the people that can do just that if you are struggling. I think that is their point. No point if you have fallen out of love with the car. Sell it and be done. For the record I love Merc's as well, both old and new but the problems i have had with some of my Merc's have been incredible to the point of it is actually a joke including rust on a 2 year old car, new gearbox, paint problems etc etc. I have moved to the dark side and bought a BMW 330 X Drive and its been good because i initially hated it but because i now use it just as a car and not a passion I rather like it. It is fast, dull to look at, comfortable and great handling with the AC suspension it is a tool. Now my Esprit, that is something else, I have been caught looking at it in the garage with a glass of wine on a Friday Night ( there is a thread on this somewhere) it makes me smile everytime I take it anywhere, its cool in a way that Ferrari's are not and to be honest it is great to drive. there is always something wrong with it, but it is looked after by a genius and was rebuilt by a chap on here. It has let me down once, clutch slave cylinder, outside someones house. Pretty much the whole street came out and I was given cups of coffee and an offer of dinner by one of the people in the houses where i broke down. you wont get that in any other car and that is Lotus in a nutshell. Right boys like this a lot because you know i am talking the truth. And God Bless You All Ahmen D x
Popular Post Gm77
Like Simon I had a squeak in what I believe was the supercharger belt. It only happened in the winter when it was especially cold and disappeared after the car warmed up. Now we are into Spring, it's completely disappeared. Lotus are however going to pay for a new belt and tensioner under warranty. Mine is from the first batch manufactured in 2015 - very few problems and very much loved.
Popular Post Stuno1
I feel for the op but then none of the things mentioned other than paint seem massive issues. Check this review if a blokes 1 year with a 911 991. Also read the comments for people having similar issues. My point being no cars are perfect and what matters more is how a car makes you feel. If the 400 does not float your boat then I suggest you sell and move on.
Popular Post Gm77
So, in summary, he likes his 911 because it's practical, fuel efficient (by his standards), goes quickly, and has room for shopping. And he wants to turn the car into a 911R visually. And he wanted a manual, bought a pdk, and still wants a manual. Very odd - I wasn't feeling the passion. Deep down, we all know he wants a Lotus...

Gold FFM JayEmm Posted May 6, 2017 Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 6, 2017 I got tired of Porsche people after dealing with so many of them that spent so long looking for a car with an impossible list of requirements, compromising on none of them - some of them might have even been looking for cars that never actually existed... only to then go and buy something completely different. 2 Quote James Martin (JayEmm) Director of Photography & Car Enthusiast Follow my Lotus adventure online! www.jayemm.com
Richard Grinham
Long time reader first time poster. The owner mentions lotus silverstone, I've had quite extensive dealings with them and this doesn't sound likely. At all. This whole post comes across as a guy who has access to the cars but doesn't own them. I don't mean to be personal but you're all thinking it. You simply wouldn't be in a position to own a quarter of a million quids worth of metal/plastic and be so, erm, inconsistent in thought. Evora 400 owner, 1300 miles in and a boot that won't open, but a smile from ear to ear. Ps my previous car ftype v6 s had a squeaky auxiliary belt when it had rained, the dealer tried to pass this off as wheelspin due to wet weather ? Gold FFM C8RKH Posted May 9, 2017 Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 9, 2017 Welcome Richard and an interesting observation re the OP. I was actually coming around to thinking it was the adolescent child of the cars owner based on the coherence, or lack of it, in the posts. Nothing to do with spelling in the posts, just how random they appeared to be or not shall we say in "train".... Glad you're enjoying the 400. You don't need the boot anyway, just throw your shopping on the back seats as it's better for the weight distribution and therefore the handling! Simon on tour
Isn't this getting personal. I don't appreciate being called a liar! Well done!
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted May 9, 2017 Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 9, 2017 Actually Simon no one has called you a liar if you actually read the posts. Yes, a few of us have found the posts, the style, the content strange and we have expressed an opinion on that. Or are we not now allowed to express an opinion? Sorry if you feel slighted in any way. However, maybe if you provided a but more context and structure around the thread that you started it would clear a few things up. For instance, you might not think it's strange to keep an £80k car lying around doing nothing for a year and then threaten to dissect it with an axe. For me, that is strange behaviour indeed. However, I don't know your personal circumstances and so it might be OK / perfectly normal for you. That's fine too by the way. It's just not normal for me hence the wondering out loud... franjipane
If it was me i'd either get it fixed and drive it, or get it fixed and sell it or just take the hit and sell the thing. I'm not sure you gain anything from creating a thread, unless you're asking for advice or looking to share useful information.

I clearly explained that I was in legal proceedings. I also stated the car had already spent 3 months at lotus. Also Im away half the time. So what so strainge about that? So I've raised complaints, real design problems and pointed out ways lotus could provide us all with better cars. You lot say it's a lotus it's ment to leak, squeak, rattle and grind. So lotus change nothing.
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted May 9, 2017 Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 9, 2017 Ok. Maybe my bad. Not going to get stressed about it to be honest. Do hope you get the problems fixrd and you get to enjoy the car. Do also remember when you are comparing quality with Porsche that they turn out in a week the number of cars Lotus makes in a year. That has a massive impact on R&D costs and affordability and also on cost of parts bought in. You're certainly not comparing apples with apples here and of course Porsche quality will be higher at this point in time. The Lotus product is a bargain when you consider it's handbuilt nature. pickle
@Simon on tour Did you manage to get out and drive the car after giving it a wash? It was perfect weather over the weekend (up here at least). Hope you managed to enjoy the car doing what it does best, and can appreciate that a few of the compromises are worth it. pickle
Hard to do, but if you can give the car a fresh start it might be worth it. At least that way if you decide to sell the car you can part on good terms and salvage something from a bad situation.
