lovely 1987 HC for sale

@Vipers being fortunate to own both a classic Esprit and an Exige V6, you really need one of each. Such different ownership experiences. With the Esprit it's a lot of polishing and taking photos. With the Exige it's more about shredding race tracks. If you're not planning to get heavily into trackdays I'd say go for the Esprit. Classics are really nice and rewarding to drive within the legal limit.

I must admit since having my S2 M100 it really has made me appreciate owning an older car, I really love my Elan so I totally understand what a differetn experience it is, you really feel a sense a duty to look after it and preserve it for years to come, in the end I'd love an Esprit, a Europa and original Elan.

I was hoping to spend around £30k for an Esprit so this is a little out of budget but where there is a will there is always a way :-)

Appreciate it if you can hold off for about 8 weeks, Paul. Thanks.

Sorry Ian, not sure I could do that, we are planning another Boys Toys Day this year for July 22nd so if I do end up with it you can always come along and admire it :-)

I am hoping the TLF meet on Sunday will give me some clarity of thought :-)

@The Pits are you taking your turbo? Paul it is worth seeing cars in this condition (Jonny's turbo) to see where the value lies.

Funnily enough it was seeing Jonny's Esprit at the Brands meet in 2015 that got me thinking that I needed an Esprit, been looking on and off ever since, look forward to seeing it and Jonny again on Sunday, I fear Sunday could end up costing me a few shillings, around 45k of them :-)

The best example of anything of a certain age will always be worth the most. Slightly chipped antiques are not just a little cheaper than those perfect examples. Im sure the same holds for classic cars.

POA is one of my biggest pat hates. It is also often done by unscrupulous dealers who have cars on sale or return, thereby preventing the owner from finding out what money they are actually getting for his car. In any case it is absolutely bollocks. I would not by a POA car on principle.

That car does look good though

is that Pats old car?

UK Sports cars have this one for sale now too - http://www.uksportscars.com/view/lotus-esprit-turbo-hc-1987-stunning-calypso-red-sand-leather-champagne-velour-seat-inserts/

62,000m for £34k. Just before our cars on the Hethel track Cliff! B-)

After watching these being an owner interesting to see the confirmation from Andy Grahams archives at Lotus -

136 HC Turbos built

42 in Calypso Red and 11 of those were with Sand Leather......     (happy to be corrected!)

And UK Sports Cars increase the pricing. I'm sure this was sub £30k, then £32995 and now showing £33995.

Absolutely gutted, at Paul Marty's now, the car is stunning but someone who viewed it on Saturday bought it on the phone whilst I was standing in the showroom, really can't believe it as I had my credit card out ready to pay a deposit.

looks like my search will continue, I think it will be tough to find another one in this condition though, fair play to the new owner though as he has just bought a real stunner.

Sorry to hear that Paul, pretty brutal way to miss out on the car. The best cars tend not to hang around at Matty's, I'm not sure what more you could have done.

Sales do fall through sometimes though, it would be worth staying in touch. Paul Matty might also know of other turbos in great condition that might be coming up for sale at some point.

Anyone here thinking of selling an HC or other mint Giugiaro Turbo? My advice is to PM Paul right away!

Arguably the ultimate G Turbo is currently for sale: http://m.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C864651

It's a lot of money obviously but imagine what Enzo Ferrari's own personal, uniquely modified 308 (if he had one) would be worth today?

A fiver is a king's ransom round these parts, you could feed a family of four on that for a week.

Family of four? Luxury!

When I were a lad we used to feed the whole street for 10 years on 5 shillings, we used to dream about one day seeing a fiver just to know what one looked like. I say 'street', it were really a ditch full o' nettles. ;)

@Vipers Not an HC but a Turbo with an interesting history.......

http://m.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C867367

I'm going to get in contact and see if they will send me a picture of the commemorative plaque that is mentioned. I think I know where mine should be (if there ever was one) but his might confirm it.

Ah I get you're thinking @LJR - would that be on the front cant rail on the roofB-) I can however confirm the plaque on the '85 Motor Show car was not on the roof.......

Sorry to hear you've let her go Pat. I was certain it was your car - no other so mint with those colours! All the best with it all anyway.....

Enzo Ferrari was more known to be driving Fiats than his own cars - especially later 2-seaters.

And I don't think they ever officially called that colour James Bond white but I guess it all helps their sale!

Did I read Paul Matty's themselves as a business are up for sale as well?

No being funny but anyone can get a cheapo engraved brass plate made up with whatever they like. Im going to get one done saying "1985 Turbo Esprit Owned by Colin Chapman" I think that should add about £50k to my car.
