Does this sound right...?

Recommended Posts

Can someone run their ears over this please?

Sounds rather too tappety to me.

or, is it normal? I don't remember my last V6 sounding like this.

My LF1 sounded like that, I was sure the noise came from the supercharger from idle speed. Does the noise disappear once on the move ?

I only noticed it when I had the engine running and had to get something from the boot.

Certainly seems to be the charger.

I suppose I can't hear it when on the move - although I still get a grinding transmission noise

I asked the dealer to check it at the first service and they said it was ok.

My Sport 350 is much quieter though so I don't notice it as much.

I believe the transmission noise is a trait of the V6  Exige though.

That's why I love owning a Lotus - one mans noise means the cars about to explode whilst anothers means it's working as it should be

Dealer says it could possibly be an idler bearing on the belt - possible?

Simple fix?

Each of the three Lotus I had had a completely different sound from the supercharger, but none had any issues with the unit. Its the difference between British and German manufacturing tolerances. Whereas each British car is unique and some fail, we Germans  either get it right or all cars fail (see VW).

I noticed the sound today and thought it was odd but it had just come out of service a couple of weeks back and i've only done 6,000km on the car so figured it was normal. So good to know this is how the engine normally sounds.
