Rear Window Demister

Recommended Posts

All my rear window heater switch does is light the warning light on the dash, which I suppose means at least the switch works. I've been looking at the wiring and it looks like it actually uses the rear window hinge as a contact, as I can't see anyother way for wires to pass into the front. Does anyone know anything about this is? Or if not got any ideas about what might be wrong.

Look what Q's brought us. Isn't it nice!

The relay for the heated rear window is in the corner of the firewall above and behind the driver's head (assuming rhd not sure about lhd) and behind the trim panel. The switch just applies a voltage to the relay which in turn applies voltage to the rear window. Get a multimeter and check the window element itself to make sure that it's not damaged. Assuming that it's okay measure the voltage on the relay to make sure you have a switched voltage to the coil and a supply for the contacts. If all of these are okay then it could be a bad earth or a broken relay.
