Alternator question

I'm most of the way through replacing my alternator. The top bracket is a desperately tight fit, I'm unable to get it on - I've had enough for tonight.

Tell me, those that have done theirs how did you get it on?

There's very little to prize against in there, I'm considering refitting the drive belt to see if the tension on that is enough, I'm also thinking about sticking a jack under there if there's room.

When I replaced my alternator with the Bosch unit, I noticed the top mounting bracket was tight too. Then I noticed that on the alternator bracket there were spacers in the alternator mounting holes and that they should move. I squeezed then with some pliers to get them to move freely. I actually had to remove the spacer from top mounting and put it in backwards so the alternator would fit. Once you tighten everything up the spacers will move to take up any space between the mount brackets and the alternator. I've had mine on since Aug with no problem or any belt issues.

I actually ended up grinding down the top spacer about a mm, it's all in and fine now though.

I think we should compile a list of most shit jobs, give me a gearbox swap any day .......
