nosbigkin
Buying my first Lotus Elise this weekend, So on internet to find recommended insurance companies, AIB seem to crop up a few times, so filled in their online information and got a call back on Saturday just to check a few details and they will call back on Monday. So got a call this morning from the guy asking about my driving experience and what cars i've previously owned (last car before my current family car was a jaguar S type R, plenty powerful enough) Then this afternoon another guy from AIB called me and said that they wouldn't insure me as i have no experience of driving small lightweight sports cars? If they did insure me then it would of cost me £1400. Im 45yrs old, never claimed on insurance or had any accidents in 27yrs. Found it a bit bizarre really, felt like i was 18 again trying to insure my first car. oh well, plenty more insurance companies to try. theelanman
I did get asked the same question when I insured the Evora........ my response was that this was not my first Lotus.....and I have driven cars with lotus of BHP...... they never flinched and I got my insurance............while I know its no consolation to you Im just pointing out that it seems to be getting to be a more standard question when you get more powerful sportscars...... Im sure that would change....a) next year when youve had a year at it. b) if you did a driver training course Quote The Faster You Drive...The Slower You Age (Albert Einstein 14 March 1879 - 18 April 1955)
Bibs
The reason AIB are well priced (for the rest of us, sorry!) is that they avoid risk. While you certainly fit the criteria for cheap insurance, sports cars are of course quicker than other cars therefore it does represent more risk which is why they've loaded your premium. Quite a few people have gone with Classicline recently, it'd be worth you giving them a call Quote 88 Esprit NA, 89 Esprit Turbo SE, Evora, Evora S, Evora IPS, Evora S IPS, Evora S IPS SR, Evora 400, Elise S1, Elise S1 111s, Evora GT410 Sport Evora NA For forum issues, please contact the Moderators. nosbigkin
I will be calling around some more companies in the next few days, thanks for recommending classicline , ill give them a call. Kind regards Nik
MesTCS
To be fair to AIB, I've just been offered a quote that I thought was very decent, with no no-claims (using them against another car) and in a money pit post code. Darren was most helpful.

NR2k
Not had good experience with aib myself. They said it was completely impossible to get an agreed value policy for the elise last year. Now insured through adrian flux.
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted September 16, 2017 Gold FFM Report Share Posted September 16, 2017 Found Aib to be brilliant since owning a lotus. They cover all my vehicles now. Agreed values are to do with insurance co's considerations of classic vehicle ages. My v8 wasn't a classic - my S4 is - terms were different even though there was only a few year difference in age Quote Only here once
MPx
AIB have just renewed my Esprit for under £100 fully comp up to 3000 miles which I think is a really good deal. But they wont do anything realistic on my Elan which I have with Performance Direct. Similarly PD aren't competitive for the Esprit. Basically I think they all make it up on the spot and go for whatever sum they think they can get away with. I always do a check with the Meerkats or similar and this year it was the Rangie that had gone silly on renewal (increase of over £200) and had to switch to bring it back to normal - which I did easily enough.
