Barrykearley 6,844
Righto - come on chaps I'd like to bottom this out. the clutch seems to be some kind of secret - and I'd just like it to be simple cross referenced I've bought a brand new one from SJ. It's a Valeo kit - 801299. this has been somewhat hijacking @ian29gte thread - so here it is in its own topic Quote Only here once
sailorbob 263
The S4 & GT3 clutch pressure plate should be rated at 7000 N (I've seen one removed from an S4 marked 235 CP 7000) and the S4s & S300 rated at 8300 N.
swindon_alan 1,693
For reference, the discussion on S4/S4s/S300 clutches on Ian's thread starts here: continues for about a page and ends here: On 01/07/2017 at 07:41, sailorbob said: The S4 & GT3 clutch pressure plate should be rated at 7000 N (I've seen one removed from an S4 marked 235 CP 7000) and the S4s & S300 rated at 8300 N. So the one Barry bought from SJ is slightly underrated for an S4 then at 6500 N? Do we think it will suffice? Llewelyn82 88
Holy thread hijack Batman! I know this is old news but I am keen to bottom out the mystery of the UN1 clutch cross reference once and for all.... I found this info in a Valeo catalogue and thought I'd share: Looks like either the 801299 or 801300 kits are both suitable.... !
Sparky 2,833
Fits, but the clamping force is too low. You name it, I've tried it, PNM has the best solution in my opinion. 1 Quote British Fart to Florida, Nude to New York, Dunce to Denmark, Numpty to Newfoundland. And Shitfaced Silly Sod to Sweden. Llewelyn82 88
Thanks for the advice but I'm still tempted to take a gamble on one just because I am quite tight and don't like paying "specialist" premiums.... Has anyone suffered any ill effects of a 6500nm clamping force?? Does it cause slip?
Barrykearley 6,844
I’ve posted this before - in the cross ref section. the Valeo kit is what sj sell - I’ve booted the daylights out of mine and it’s not slipped yet Quote Only here once
Sparky 2,833
Each to their own. I'd always fit a kit proven by a specialist in preference to something designed for an old Renault 25. And as a prospective buyer I'd be looking to pay less, knowing any out-of-spec components were fitted. Quote British Fart to Florida, Nude to New York, Dunce to Denmark, Numpty to Newfoundland. Barrykearley 6,844
The SJ kit has been fitted to hundreds of uk esprits - I’ve not seen much reference to issues with it. It is standard valeo stuff as well. Some of the other stuff SJ sells which doesn’t perform well - we all know about frankly - so I would consider this clutch to be fine or we would see topics everywhere Quote Only here once
sailorbob 263
The Valeo 801300 kit's clutch pressure plate is only rated at 5500 N.
andydclements 753
I've had a clutch fail at c6000 miles on the lower clamping force BUT, the engine isn't standard, so some of that degradation of durability may be caused by the increase in torque.

sailorbob 263
I thought the SJ pressure plate was the same as the one from the Valeo 801299 kit.
Barrykearley 6,844
Yes - please see the very top post all the info is there. you will also notice cp6500 stamped on the plate Quote Only here once
Advantage 910
A straightforward Google shows that as being listed for various V6 Renaults (the 25 and GTA Alpine etc). How accurate that might be is unknown to me.

Popular Post stevefh 9
Hi all, many year ago SJ supplied me with a CP 6500, when I put my foot down it always slipped. When I spoke to Steve he sent me a CP 7000 and didn’t want the first one back. My car is not modified,so I would not fit the CP 6500 to an S4. 3
Glyn Harper 55
I ended up going for PNM Engineering PNMQ0014 kit for mine when I swapped it earlier in the year. My car has since been dyno'd at 301bhp and it seems fine. So that's another option. I didn't take a photo at the time of what the new clutch actually is though sadly.
