The fact that the seller hasn't actually stated that is a Cat C/D car (but vaguely refers to the clam damage) would make me suspicious about a fib or two...

Any dealer worth their salt wouldn't touch a CAT listed car at all

Yes it is..... but I have a garage full presently....and not enough time to sort out what I've already got.

to be fair - I'd much rather spend another few grand and get a hpi clear car. In my younger days I had plenty of cat listed cars - was far easier to shift them on then !! Lack of internet and all that

A front clam is £4.5k inc from Lotus, so to write a ~£35k car off as an uneconomical repair it's been through more than 'minor clam damage' I'd assume. That said, it's fairly priced for a car on the hit list.

An Esprit bodyshell is close to £12k mate (and the GT430 bumpers, roof and tailgate are all carbon, as is the entire body of the 3-Eleven!).

Trouble is when they repair these cars they have to use brand new bits - writes stuff off real easy..... I can't see how they got to write off level with just a clam and paint though

Some insurers do immediately write off if the airbag has been deployed though

At 4.5 k for the front clam, plus specialist dealerships labour rates added in and paint labour on top, plus any residual repairs etc i suppose it all adds up to probably quite a high figure on the on calculator sadly.  

Think they need to watch B is for build :)
