TheKevlarKid 581
Of all the crappy brackets Lotus use, this is officially the worst I've ever come across!! The bent peice of 2mm Ali in the foreground was used to mount the wing pylons back to the chassis. The wing pylons then double up to hold the rear clam panel (this is the same on all 2-11's). There was no way I was replacing like for like, instead I've cut some 5mm Ali angle to do the job properly!! No more wobbly wing and clam...

Surely not from normal use?
TheKevlarKid 581
Yes from normal use!! The subframe is not flat, it has a overlapping plate where the bracket wants to sit. When the original mounts have been bolted to it they have deformed to accommodate the height difference on the subframe. The original bracket is just a piece of folded 2mm material and when the rear bolts have been tightened it has squished it down onto the subframe and flattened it out even more... A couple more pics here, you can see I've used a washer under the rear bolts now to level off the mounting face on the subframe. I'm going to get some rectangular shims cut so it looks tidy, rather than have washers poking out from under the new mounts. They're only temporary.

TheKevlarKid 581
It's been a slow couple of weeks on the 211 front. Waiting for parts and panels to continue, that and this cold snap the last week has kept me out of the workshop... Managed to get a few bits back though. Inner body panels have had a fresh lick of paint before they get bonded back in (also had them paint the external side black, they always look unfinished when taking them apart...). I sourced a brand new gearbox and clutch assembly. And also a new, larger laminova to replace the old one. Engine being pulled apart next....
Popular Post TheKevlarKid 581
So that is the engine stripped and cleaned up. Load of new parts going on it, brand new supercharger, alternator, cams, timing cover, pulleys and bearings, oil pump, water pumps seal kit, etc. Also going to be ditching most of the unnecessary cooling and breather pipes that litter the engine bay and restrict access. Pretty much going to be left with the main water inlet in and out of the engine and the header tank. The cam cover and all the supercharged intakes and hardware is away being Xylan coated as they were all looking grubby and wouldn't clean up. Driveshafts also away for a full refurb. With a bit of luck it will all be back in the chassis and up and running again by the end of next week, which will just leave me with the bodywork to finish... fingers crossed x

AdamK 29
Your car is coming along nicely Gav! This picture has got me thinking.... nice neat double puller fan set up on the back of a 2-Eleven intercooler. I reckon this could be a simple cost effective way of massively increasing air through the intercooler to keep heat soak at bay. I wonder if anyone has tried it? TheKevlarKid 581
@AdamK Most of the cars running in Cup Italy use that set up Adam, they have been for years. I remember seeing it back in 2010 when we raced at Imola with them. Relatively easy to do and yes, I'd of thought it would make a difference... The picture you see above is of an exige (obviously), which has limited space to mount fans under the bootlid so they are limited in size of fans that you can use. With the 2-11's intercooler at the back you could look to use a much larger single fan mounted to the subframe and use flexible ducting onto the i/c. I'm 95% made my mind up of going back to the stock i/c set up. The charge cooler on there is probably going up for sale if you're interested in it at all before I advertise it? AdamK 29
Cheers Gav. I don’t fancy chargecooling my car at this stage of the game. There’s a possibility I’ll be selling it in 2018 due to house move and lack of use. We’ll see what happens.....

I know!! We’ll see what happens but it’s looking more likely than ever. Problem is where we want to move to I won’t have space for my trailer. Would make sense to shop the whole lot in and get one road & track car that I can happily drive to and from a trackday in.

Somebody was!! It's a virtually brand new intercooler I pickup out of louts Motorsport stores some years ago. I have another one here the same with the temp probes but with more cores I got at the same time.
