Brendonian 152
I finally switched the original two tone leather 'acorn' gear knob for the MY2012 version (thanks to the lovely folks at Lotus Silverstone for installing it). It didn't take any more than a day before I decided to paint it. I did the same on my old Exige, but forgot how much better it looks.
mik 376
I like the look of your knob. Easy enough to do?
Brendonian 152
It's always good to get praise for my knob ? Yes, very easy. I used a fine paint brush, and enamel model paint left over from building a plastic aeroplane kit. Try to fill the engraved numbers with paint, but don't worry too much about going over the edges. Apply a little paint thinner to some tissue paper, and very gently wipe away the excess paint. A couple of wipes should leave a good finish. I did a couple of coats of the black, leaving an hour or so to dry between coats, then did the same with the red. Seemed the best way to avoid smearing black paint over the red bits. 2011 Chrome Orange 137
I switched and painted my knob and had my HVAC panel painted to tie the exterior color into the interior. Quote
Brendonian 152
That does look nice. Were you tempted to do the 'R' in orange to match?
2011 Chrome Orange 137
I thought of painting the 'R' orange, but I thought that might be too much. Plus, the red of the 'R' plays off the dash instruments.
Brendonian 152
I'm really surprised how the new knob has changed the feel of changing gear. Somehow, it really feels noticeably more direct and mechanical. I didn't expect it, but I'm very happy with the feel.
mik 376
Just copied you. cheers! Knob is held on by a n allen-key grub screw at tbd front - then it unscrews. Watch out for the spring as it reaches the end.

I was surprised how different it felt in my S1. 1 Quote A Lotus is for driving, pork is for breakfast.
Scotsdave 27
Do you need to replace the whole shaft or can you just swap the knob? Edited October 1, 2017 by Scotsdave
Brendonian 152
You just need the knob and the grub screw.

Your knob looks very shiny. Have your been polishing it? (If that's not too personal a question?)
mik 376
Mine isn't as shiney as Mr Oranges, but isn't as matt as yours either. <insert another double entendre here>
2011 Chrome Orange 137
No, I did not polish my knob. That is how it came. (this thread does NOT sound right!) Edited October 1, 2017 by 2011 Chrome Orange

Scotsdave 27
Just spotted that Lotus are selling some knobs on the Motorsport auctions Here

French Frie 401
a good tip to paint such engraved writings is to use a small syringe with its needle, and fill the grooves with it ... PS: just like that (begins at 3:20) !
mack73 3
Wow this looks great. Supplies ordered. I'm going to try the syringe method.
mik 376
I used a cocktail stick to "dip and fill". Which is annoying as I have some syringes too....

Arregueti 206
^ Do these fit the Evora? They are advertised as Elise/Exige? Edit to add: Neger mine, already bought it. :-) It does look really nice when painted.
