Jaguar F type

Recommended Posts

Had a chance to drive a Jaguar F type yesterday. 5 litre supercharged V8.

Well it can certainly move and handles really well and the noise - we had it in 'stealth' mode and it still was impressive. Apparently the loud mode isn't allowed (we were at Donington) although we did switch it on for a few seconds!!

I drove my neighbours convertible. It did sound tremendous, but doesn't hide its weight well.

Had one as a courtesy car for a month.. was excited and convinced it would be my next daily.... ?‍♂️ meh!

what a huge disappointment, pretty car that's a complete fake. The handling is a bit like a simulator... it works well but something's missing and you don't want to push it as it feels so complicated you'll break it and it will cost 1000s to fix!! the interior is worse than a 90s Ford Escort, my car rattled and had a lot of wind seal noise (coupe).. scratches all over the flimsy piano black bits ?

Can't quite believe how such a fantastic design was so criminally executed. Maybe the V8 is a better car but the V6s whilst being wickedly fast was one of the worst cars I've ever driven. The engine is v powerful and the transmission seamless but all too egotistic and trying too hard.. it's just not interesting, what it is is v  shouty and annoying! honestly after a while it gets quite boring to drive.

I want my Evora back!

I'm fairly confident JLR have shocking aftersales too. Doesn't help making people want to buy one.

But if you buy an X3, you'll always feel less of a man than an X5 driver. A bit like how a Focus ST driver must feel when he encounters a Focus RS.

Only if you've got a small cock and so need a bigger SUV to "prove" what a big man you are and stroke your own ego!

I'd rather have the ST (and a mountune Fiesta one as opposed to the Focus) than a Focus RS any day.  The Focus just screams look at me I'm a chav of a wanna be boy racer going through a mid life crisis.  I'd never feel less of a man for having the Fiesta ST, let alone the Focus ST.

Since i turned 50 and the kids grew up and got their own transport I've been dropping down the sizes (unfortunately only in cars, my waist has been going the other way) as I've jumped out of the arms race that is keeping up with the Jones's. I've never swallowed in my life the blatant hero worshipping that goes on with the average cock who buys a German car because they are exclusive and a symbol of success, or, lie above lie, because they are more relaible!  If you wnt a reliable car buy a Subaru, Toyota, or Honda!  They stopped being exclusive around the year 2000 when BMW was selling more 3 series than Ford was selling Mondeo's.  They were like a sanitary product. Every XXXX had one. What was exclusive about that?

Rather than feeling inadequate when i drive around in the wife's very nicely appointed and kitted out top of the range Qashqai, when some old cock goes past me in an X5, or Q7, or Cayenne I just smile thinking that my wife's car cost what there's will cost them in depreciation in 3 years. Costs me nothing to run with its free road tax and inclusive service costs. And therefore allows me to have no guilt at all with the money I spend on my two 'iccle cars that were built in Hethel and actually I have more money to spend on my little babies at the end of the day.  you see, I'd rather be the selfish bar steward that I am, than someone who pays to prove they have, (or are?) a bigger cock.  :)  hahahahaha......

But. And this is the important bit. We are all entitled to think we are right and you can certainly spend your money how you wish. After all, you earned it.

Brilliant post! Choked on my cup of tea when I got to "they were like a sanitary product. Every XXXX had one". When I am in my Exige I'm afraid I treat the X5, Q7 and Cayenne as the enemy - I don't believe they use their mirrors properly and quite clearly indicators were an optional extra they all forgot to fit....

Test drove an F-Pace for the wife two days ago.. pretty and drove ok but like the F-Type just missing the sparkle. It felt cheap compared to an X3...

While I'd not own one, I like the look of the F-Pace in comparison to other SUV's. Doesn't she want an Evora instead? :D

I was interested in the FPace as my wife's next car.  However, as it was to be my wife's car she was the one who had to love it.  She didn't.  Her comments?  "This is not a Jaguar!  Where is the gorgeous interior?"  She preferred to spend less and bought a VW Allroad.  At first I was disappointed but then I realized the situation  favored me as I was up for a new car too so I took advantage of the situation and tried an F Type R for myself.

Like Inkyfingers, I liked it (as much the idea as the car) until I  drove the Lotus.

The trouble with these big, over powered, heavy and bullet proof SUV's is they make the owners think they are invisible and superior to anything else. They are cocooned in a nuclear bunker impervious to anything outside. They are down right killing machines in the wrong hands - usually either women who are not focusing on driving or male cocks being overly aggressive in their tanks.

However, to stay on scope. Had my first go in an F-Type. I love them from the outside. Walking round them, looking at them from a distance. They just look really really lovely. Had a pleasure of sitting in a red one with the dove/ivory interior. looked gorgeous to be honest.

However, got inside one and being a previous gen XJ owner I was seriously disappointed in the interior. It was just like any other mainstream highish end car. Nice, but not inspiring or special.  Didn't get the chance to drive, but to be honest, I won't be swapping my Evora S1 for one. The Evora to me, just feels more special.

I think this is a problem with the current JLR range generally, they've lost their identity a bit. I test drove a LR Discovery Sport as a potential replacement for my previous Freelander and thought it was smart but dull - reminded me of an Audi!

Mrs mik had a Disco4 HSE and we went in for a casual look over a Disco5. Not for us.

she spotted the f-Pace on the way out however.... which is why she now has one in 3.0dS flavour.

Living in Henley on Thames I'm surrounded by pretension turds in new X5s, Range Rovers and Q7s who clog up the roads dropping Peaches and Leaf off to their piano recitals.  My XC90 may have looked the part for 5 minutes but I can't be arsed to keep up with these shallow people.  So I bought a 60s Mustang instead, which is incredibly noisy and has big fat wheels.   It's a good way to say fcuk off.  I'm in the process of buying a Dixie air horn for it too, which is 150 decibels.  I intend to use it whenever I'm near SUVs or those other road parasites, MAMIL's.

Yee hah! Right on @Mark Blanchard you have my total respect.

10:4 rubber ducky for a mighty wee convoy through Henley one of these days!

I have my XC90 and it's a tank. It does what I bought it for and far superior to the TD5 which has been parked on the drive for he last few months. Of course I would rather have an Evora but.

My drive to work is down very narrow country lanes, and the number of people who drive these enormous 4x4s, but who are not prepared to even let one wheel go onto the verge is hilarious.

Thankfully, I really don't mind forcing my shed of a Mk4 Golf into a bush, so they can get their kids to school on time...

Lol Dave. Same problem up here. I just stop on the left, but on the road, in my little Clio and then wave at them to come through which means if they want to continue THEY need to go on the grass/verge and if they hit me, well, they hit a stationary vehicle.

The look of sheer horror on their faces when they realise THEY need to then take control and go off-road, in a jacked up 4x4 offroader, really gives me the chuckles.

What I really do not understand is their mentality.  I want to drive only on the road - so I will go and buy a great big jacked up 4x4.  I want to think I am driving a sports car - so they will spec their jacked up 4x4 with the biggest fookoff engine they can and then proceed to drive it like a battering ram at warp speed down little roads whilst pretending to be Senna chasing Prost. I mean. Really. Were these people born as stoopid dumbass fooknuts, or, is it just something they have put a lot of energy and training into becoming?

I looked at an F type R to replace the Exige, quick powerful 2 seater etc. HAd it for a weekend and ended up leaving it on the drive on Sunday , returned on Monday.  Frankly we're spoilt with the Loti we drive compared to other 'sports cars' . However mate has a F Tyre V6s convertible and loves wafting around in it.

I've an F Pace 2.0 diesel Prestige to drive at the moment. Dynamically it is rather good for a SUV , engine is gruff low down but gets up and goes. Major let down is the interior , as has been mentioned , doesn't 'feel' like a Jag. But this one is £40k and though at first sounds a lot just take a look at other prices in the 'premium' SUV bracket and suddenly you can see why they did ok with it....now being overtaken by latest trinket Velar and always outsold by XC / X3

Last topic. We sold our RS6  and bought a big blue brick called an SQ7 - yes another Audi, yummy. Was going black with black trim etc but too gangsta and threatening , so its a more cheerful blue. Far more entertaining to drive than the JLR product, wonderful over a long distance, never used on school run and pulls 3 tonne of trailer/horse as if its not there. Where I live we have plenty of princesses in their 4x4s that cant drive and to be fair happily fling their 4x4s into the nearest hedge without slowing down as they go to school/spin class/coffee morning etc...I actually wince as I hear the hedge removing a layer of paint from the poor cars side.

You've plenty more fun with SUVs to come as the market has more small, mid and large being churned out. They're also easiest to place the hybrid/BEV tech in too, so they won't disappear for many many years.

Anyway think Mark mustang is best idea, looked lovely at Hofmans other day.

I would have enjoyed having an FPace in the fleet had she opted for it as of the truck-cars we considered I thought it  the most interesting .   I liked it more than she did but my opinion was rightly discounted seeing as it wasn't mine to select.    While we were at the dealership we drove an Evoke and our positions were reversed.  She liked it but I thought it played distinct second fiddle to the F Pace, the Audi Allroad, BMW's 3 series wagon and just about everything else we considered.

I have to say I'm generally not amused by truck-like cars, even though I have to admit we've owned our share.
