If I didn't already order one, I would after your article, simply amazing write up !
Many thanx

For sure, it will be super fast in Spa, a regular Evora S is capable of sub 2'46, which is already really fast regarding the HP/weight ratio.

Much appreciated.

2.46 is a savage time at Spa, no-one has beaten than that in an Exige V6 Cup yet. My target would be to go under 2.50, to begin with anyway. I'm no Spa specialist and I never go all out on a trackday but I never went under 2.50 in the Exige which felt mighty fast at Spa.

I've done a 2.41 in a Caterham but that's a race car. Not many road cars go under 2.40 so I'd be very happy with a 2.46. Will be really interesting to find out. I'm expecting the downforce to come into play at Spa for sure.

This is my new Evora GT 430 with special painting ( Gold Leaf) by hethel factory. The car is waiting for me at Komo Tec Germany. You can see the car this weekend in the KOMO-TEC Box in Nürburg /N

Thanks @Bibs and all.   What a feeling.  And it will be the only time in my life I am customer #1!   More pics and thoughts to follow.  But I can say this is a special car, very special.

Out of interest, how much would it cost to retro fit those dampers to a 400? Seems like biggest improvement in the car is there! Great article, and great review!

Approximately £5k + VAT + fitting. £7k++ if you want the Mechatronics system included.

The ‘Lotus spec’ for the dampers is available outside of Lotus, btw.

I went to drool over the Silverstone GT430 today.

It’s starlight black with the carbon backed sparco seats.

As many have said, the thing is very striking with amazing presence and demeanour.

Build quality is pretty good too.

I was transfixed by the very beautiful complex shaped rear wing ??

Is a regular road legal Evora S really capable of doing a 2:46?!? hard to imagine for me - is there anything on video? I would have guessed it should be capable of maybe a 2:55ish time..

How fast round Spa in a GT 430 can Jonny go? Math can help give us an indication. Around Hethel a GT 430 is 4.66 % faster than a Exige sport 350(1m 25.8 v 1m 29.8). Jonny has "estimated" that the 350 has almost identical performance to his Exige Cup, so lets proceed on that basis, bearing in mind Hethel is not Spa and this is just statistical fun. Jonny has never dipped under 2m 50 at Spa...so lets speed up that lap time by 4.66%, and we get....2m 42. Fast enough as a target for you Jonny! Jim Clarke must have been driving that 2m 46 Evora S.....

I made 2'48 with an Evora S MY12 IPS, Pirelli PZero Corsa. This was during the GT Days 2012, I was there for the belgian dealers (was working for Lotus at the moment). As I'm not a pro driver, was not alone in the car, IPS, I assume that a better driver, alone, could go under 2'46.

It is good to dream...so i have been giving serious consideration to the spec of my fantasy GT 430. I prefer the stealth look of the Sport variant and as i wouldn't be venturing on track the aero extras would never be properly utilised. Wedgewood blue and silver wheels. Air con and cruise. Sound insulation. +2 seating and glass quarter panels so it's not too dark back there. Auto transmission. Cup holder. Wouldn't require radio/navigation. For me perfection of Evora...until the roadster comes along.

On Spa laptimes the record in the Lotus Cup series stands at 2.37 in an Exige V6 CupR, 1040kg, 360bhp, Xtrac paddleshift. The time was set this year, the previous record was in the 2.38s.

I've lapped Spa in 2.41 in a Caterham race car, using treaded tyres. The car is now quicker than when I set that time, I would hope to get below 2.40 if I went back there. On slicks my Caterham was definitely faster than all the Lotus Cup cars at a test at Brands Hatch this summer. When competing using treaded tyres the Caterhams I race against are setting similar times to the fastest Lotus Cup cars. I have compared my Caterham with the 311 at Castle Combe and I was 2 secs a lap quicker around there in the Seven. The 311 was being driven by a pro driver too. A 2 sec advantage at Castle Combe must be worth 4 secs at Spa, so based on that the GT430 should be capable of 2.43 around Spa if it really faster than a 311. So that backs up @cobwatch's estimate.

That would be a very serious time around Spa. Some very big 'if's' attached.

If the GT430 really is faster than the 311. Hethel advantage might not translate to Spa.

If the conditions are perfect and I get a clear lap.

If I was willing to put the time in to learn the track and the car plus advice on suspension settings and fitting fresh tyres before going for a serious laptime attempt.

If I was willing to take risks with my own GT430 for the sake of a laptime.

As such I'll stick with my target of going sub 2.50, if that's a piece of cake I'll start getting more ambitious.

@Michadams I'd hate to drive home depressed because I couldn't beat your Evora S IPS time only for you to remember afterwards that it was actually 2.58! Can you double check before I go?

For heaven's sake Jonny do not stuff your beautiful new 430...be careful!  Your plan of building speed with familiarity is sensible. There will be plenty of fast risk takers out there and we will know soon enough what the 430 is all about. As an aside, have you driven the 430 Sport?

Ahaha ! I'm sure about the time. I lapped Spa in 3'03 in a FunCup with road tyres. 2'54 with an Evora NA (small wheels, Pirelli PZero, manual). 2'41 with a 211 GT4 manual / 048, in 2009
I didn't get back on track with a Lotus since 2012.

That would be mine as well, sounds the perfect Evora....Except the price!  (The solid plastic rear quarter windows will be a complete PITA at some intersections, I'd definitely want glass ). Actually, one thing I really like about the 430 is the front end styling and the mesh over the radiator  outlets in front of the windscreen. The thing that has always put me off the 400 is the front end design and all the egg crate plastic, it just looks so cheap and, frankly, a bit tacky.  My opinion only, I'm sure there are plenty who love the look though.

Here's a nice vid of the Evora GT4 at Spa. It's the car that provided a lot of the inspiration and a few components for the GT430.

You can also see the grip on slicks is very serious. Eau Rouge is entered at 224kmh (140mph!), exit is 180kmh (112.5mph). Max speed at Kemmel Straight is 235kmh (147mph). All interesting benchmarks to compare but I can't see the GT430 getting close. Michelin do very good slicks though....

2'48 in an Evora S MY12 IPS on Pirelli PZero Corsa tyres sounds almost impossibly quick - good work. Perhaps the track conditions were very good and the stars all aligned.

I think Gavan Kershaw would struggle to beat 2.48 in a stock Evora S IPS. Can't see anyone going quicker. Anything under 2.45 is considered a very quick time for a road going Cayman GT4. Didn't look like there was much more time to come from Ronnie's 2.46 V6 Cup lap either. According to Lotus the Evora S laps Hethel nearly 9 secs slower than a V6 Cup so anything under 3 mins around Spa is doing well for most Evora S owners.

Regardless, with luck I'll see my GT430 for the first time tomorrow. Can't collect it yet but I can go and have a look. :o

On the day Lotus launch another newer, faster, lighter car! The GT430 held the production car record around Hethel for about 3 weeks! :stuart:
