anthonyyule
I really hope that Evo give the 430 a fair opportunity to shine. You can almost hear the laughter over on pistonheads right now.... and plenty will have already decided who the winner will be. But I do hope that Evo address the balance and demonstrate that it’s not always as black and white as the masses would have us believe. Bravo73
It's Evo. The Porsche always wins.
DJW
Popped to Silverstone today on way back from client meeting and noticed a beautiful grey metallic 430 waiting to go out. One lucky owner. The metallic black one looks very menacing in the showroom Quote Previously owned :Exige 380, Exige 350, Evora 400, Exige V6S, Esprit GT3, 2-11 SC, Evora S, Elite

Gold FFM JayEmm Posted January 19, 2018 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 19, 2018 Evo have changed a lot lately, many staff gone, eCOTY this year was not a Porsche whitewash. In fact the whole article was a shambles. I predict the GT3 will win all the numbers tests, interior better quality etc... but the GT430 may feel more special in certain areas. Hopefully it will also be proof that the many many toys the GT3 has (eg rear wheel steer) arent completely necessary. The real test for me is on road manners. I've only tried the gen 1 991 but it is very stiff as a road car Quote James Martin (JayEmm) Director of Photography & Car Enthusiast Follow my Lotus adventure online! www.jayemm.com
The Pits
Let’s hope Lotus get their act together and make the most of the adjustable Ohlins. Chris Harris will lose it if Evo dare suggest the Evora has so much as a single advantage. Most at the playground will be rooting for Porsche, hoping for a total humiliation. Car mags don’t do withering criticism anymore so they might be disappointed. It’s a massive test for any Evora really but an irresistible comparison at their respective price points. Should also be a massive test for EPAS. Ethereal qualities like steering feel are much more apparent in a back to back test. It also makes a car enjoyable to drive at legal speeds, for me the major downside of all the faster more powerful modern DCT autos is that they all feel half asleep at 50mph. Nissan GTR feels totally wasted pottering about. GT3 feels like shortshifting at 7k (and is). Until you’re doing 9k are you really even experiencing a GT3? Or just a very stiff 991? They are all maximum attack cars. The manual gearbox allows you to savour an engine, change gear as fast (or slow) as you want to. Hopefully the GT3 will be manual too. It’s a U-turn from Porsche which I applaud wholeheartedly. That engine deserves to be experienced with a manual, an experience well worth 0.2 seconds to 60mph. Of course there’s no car more alive and engaging at 50mph than an Elise, not even a GT430, but the ultimate Evora feels closer to an Elise than a Nissan GTR or Audi R8. It will be interesting to see how much this counts for with Evo but I believe the GT430 is a totally unique proposition in the marketplace. Just glad someone has brought these two cars together though. Brave of Lotus to agree to a comparison they knew they could never win. Shows some confidence too. Fingers crossed. ?
Snoopy1969
Hope that Lotus supplied a test car with all horses on board this time (not as within the german Sport Auto test when the test car / Exige had not the acclaimed hp....) A "430 worth the Money , awesome alternative to Gt3" result would be fine, lets see......

Will Lotus actually supply a car? With a limited run of just 60 I doubt it somehow. It wouldn't be the first time with Lotus where a customer provides the car and in doing so the journo's don't give it the beans. No doubt the Pork will have full factory backing...... I hope I am wrong though

Lotus did supply a car, they had a GT430 and GT430 Sport for press duties when the cars were launched. One of our members happened to see them conducting this test around the Evo triangle a couple of months back. 1 Quote 88 Esprit NA, 89 Esprit Turbo SE, Evora, Evora S, Evora IPS, Evora S IPS, Evora S IPS SR, Evora 400, Elise S1, Elise S1 111s, Evora GT410 Sport Evora NA For forum issues, please contact the Moderators. The Pits
GT430 should feel very special on that road, I just hope they had the road settings. One section will be a real test of damping quality, the other is much smoother and faster but nicely undulating. I would expect the GT3 to feel a bit too much on the slower, bumpier section and a bit too tempting (and licence threatening) and on the faster section. It's very near Anglesey too so hopefully they got a chance to drive them both around the track too. New GT3 has already lapped faster than the 991 GT3RS there though. Gulp! Some dodgy numbers though and I don't just mean Porsche times. McLaren 675LT and Ferrari 488 posting exactly the same times? Really? BAC Mono 1 second quicker than a McLaren P1 GTR? Never in a million years. 3.5 seconds quicker than a McLaren P1 on Trofeos? Possibly even less likely. BAC Mono's typically come out nearer a good Caterham time, usually can't touch a Radical. This one thrashed the fastest Radical by nearly 3 seconds. Fastest lap when I raced Anglesey Coastal was a 1.11.2 (same as the P1 on Trofeos), the driver was Danny Winstanley (top Caterham pilot) and he was running an absurdly fast car (320+bhp) on treaded tyres similar to Trofeos. I'm not much looking forward to laptimes if we see any but hopefully it will do better than the Exige V6 that got beaten by the Cayman 2.7! The Pits
I think it’s meant to be. Looks a bit yellowey in the pics, more like burnt tangerine! Also looks rhd. To date I count 11 UK cars and know of 2 more on the way. So far I’ve seen - 2 Essex Blue, 3 Metallic Grey, 1 MSG, 1 Purple, 1 Empire Green (Howards), 1 Black (Silverstone), 1 Olive Green (B&C) and now this Burnt Orange car. Bibs
They contacted TLF and it was one of our members cars. They take it easier on owners cars than press fleet, understandably. The Pits
Yes total farce really. Shouldn’t have bothered timing the Exige at all. Certainly not added to the leaderboard. Discredits the whole thing really. Still, I won’t complain if the GT430 can get anywhere near the GT3’s 1.13.4. I fear they’ll need perfect conditions, full factory support, some set-up time, fresh tyres and Gavan Kershaw to be in with any kind of chance.

TheKevlarKid
Love the chrome orange, not so keen on burnt myself, too glitzy. Looking at those 2 pics above I''m not so sure I like the new 'cut-away' front quarter panels that live behind the front wheels on the new GT's either. The pictures above make the car look a bit unfinished in that area and also makes the already big arse end look unnecessarily bigger by cutting away some of the bulk from the front. Certainly the first pic doesnt really gel or flow with the rest of the lines on car. Could just be that colour highlights it more, the darker ones don't look quite so bad. Or is it just me? Gold FFM C8RKH Posted January 20, 2018 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 20, 2018 That colour on a GT410 Sport would in my eyes look wonderful. You lose the spoiler and the A panel cut-outs and to my eyes that would be almost perfection....! Might even prefer it to a red one. Errr, hmmm, well, maybe.... Burnt orange does look superb in those photo's, lighting and scenes. Quote I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way. LF1
Rarely (if ever) see a lotus in a colour that does not look great. And all the GT430 look fantastic. My favourite probably the launch car though with the flashes of red. Also, MSG really does suit it well. Better than the V6 in my mind.
