Citroen Quaife Differential

Recommended Posts

I don't think Harry Martens has bumped this topic in this forum since the latest developments, but Quaife have now done design work on an ATB differential for the Citroen gearbox as fitted to the Esprit so this will soon (and finally!) be an available option. email Harry for details, if interested as he's arranging deposits for the initial run with Quaife.

I hear that Quaife have a nasty habit of making "special run" product replacement parts instantly obsolete. Be warned that it is likely that the SM ATB diff will be a limited run, so, if it breaks, my guess is you will be SOL for replacement parts. Just ask M Rodrigues on this forum about the drama and loss he experienced with the 6-sp seq he got from them, for his G. It cost him 25K USD to buy and fit and put very few miles on it before it needed parts.. Quaife were absolutely no help. He wound up scraping the 25K investment and put in an RBT 6-sp instead. Dont want to rain on the parade.. I would love to have an ATB in my SM, but at what risk? If Quaife promise to provide at least 5 years of customer support and parts (at a fair price) then I would consider it. J

If you set no goals you shall surely reach them..

Caveat emptor. Fair enough points. An ATB diff is a little less complicated than a racing tranny, though, custom parts primarily being the casing and input cogs to fit our splines, the rest being off the shelf adaptations. IIRC all ATB diffs are lifetime warranted, I'd be interested to hear examples of ATB diff failures. I'd be more concerned about the longevity of the Citroen components in the transaxle and refresh bearings, etc. with the install.

Not going to throw away the old open diff, tho'

Dear Harry

There should be no need for modifications. The deposit will be 25% off the full invoice.

The Quaife ATB will be issued with a Quaife lifetime warranty.

No instructions will be provided as fitment will be as per manufactures specifications.

Kind regards

Matt Simmons

Quaife Technical Sales

This is the answer from Quaife. The warranty is for the lifetime.

I'm interested to see if the transmission will withstand enough abuse to actually necessitated an upgraded diff. The central section of the gear box is poorly re-inforced and thus I would expect it to explode well before a diff would... Any information about what kind of torque the stock tranny can hold would be beneficial here I think.

Modifying esprit's.. now that's fun..

For interested parties, Harry's getting close to initiating the production run with Quaife. He may end up with a couple of extras for the long term, but obviously as this is a limited production run, anyone who has a keen interest would do well to get in on it now. I doubt the unit will ever be kept in Quaife's catalog or on their shelves.

What sort of money are we looking at here?

What is the advantage that I couldn't possibly live without for said money?

Thanks :realmad:
