Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted July 5, 2019 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted July 5, 2019 Nobby made it there and back without any issue. he reckons the clutch is stiff though 😂 - he used to have a stunning Noble which was really nice - the run out in the Esprit has made him hungry for more lots of Porsche’s, Audi R8s - yawn.... some nice pics of a Willy’s jeep and a lovely looking 1940s Austin thing. 2 Quote Only here once
Popular Post Stuart Monument
More you say ... I know of a lovely blue S4 if Nobbys interested. I would want a commission for the into tho 😂
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted November 28, 2019 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 28, 2019 Well if you go onto channel4 and watch series 4 episode 8 of find it fix it flog it - there’s a sighting of a couple of recognisable motors. Henry Cole was up filming at Nobbys again after buying a Morris minor off him in the last one. He’s done his bond but this time 1 Quote Only here once
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted November 28, 2019 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 28, 2019 They even went to my other mates place - the magic red press which does all my suspension work is famous 😂 1 Quote Only here once
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted January 6, 2020 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 6, 2020 Yesterday started off much like any other. so I thought instead of just lazing on the sofa - I’d dig the S4s out the garage and clear off the dust then a nice trip out to tintern with some other fellow esprit guys for this lovely wee line up. what I didn’t expect after a good old while of esprit ownership is the awful situation I’ve never ever been faced with before coming onto the A40 just out of Monmouth the turbo kicked in and absolutely filled 4 lanes of traffic with the thickest densest whitest smoke ever imaginable....... so this weeks job is to remove the turbo and send off for rebuild 2 3 6 Quote Only here once

drdoom
White "smoke" is typical of coolant vapours sent aloft, hope your fail is limited to the turbo.
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted January 6, 2020 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 6, 2020 It was stunning - there was the most impressive thick dense white cloud that covered the entire 4 lanes. water was pouring out of the turbo - believe it’s simply blown the seals out the thing - only time will tell Quote Only here once

Home tonight from swimming at 2100 - straight outside - turbo off in less than 30mins. Turbo seals are gone - impellers are intact - but there’s play and a distinct squelching sound when you wobble the shaft - oooer 2 minutes ago, pete said: I was more polite The inference was clear...... still you never asked the colour of anyone’s pants - or questioned if they had changed them recently 4 1 2 Quote Only here once
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted January 6, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 6, 2020 I bet he had to change his undies when the turbo blew. Hate to think how much damage that did to the environment. 1 Quote I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way. Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted January 7, 2020 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 7, 2020 Was in stourbridge today - and nearly dropped the turbo into a specialist there - sadly his hinting that components within might be problematic to obtain as turbo technics do some funny things left me with only one option in my mind. now packaged up and awaiting collection by turbo technics - 10 days they reckon to turn it round. Let’s see just how bad the bills gonna be. Looking at the mot history it would appear the turbo lasted just over 4000miles..... 1 Quote Only here once
Gold FFM tomcattom Posted January 7, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 7, 2020 I feel your pain. Been through a similar situation with a turbo letting go on one of my other cars, although in my case I was able to limp it home. 1 Quote Norfolk Mustard S4s #
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted January 14, 2020 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 14, 2020 Car dragged across the field, which is an utter quagmire, back in the garage by Nobbys A4 4x4 thingy. Turbo technics have diagnosed the turbo failure due to oil contamination - with water they seem to think. Oil is clean as the day it was put in - on the dipstick, at sump drain and the filler - I’ve explained the failure mode to them and they’ve now gone back to re-examine and test the turbo as it’s possible something else is wrong they don’t routinely check for. Turbo is repairable and not overly expensive. So just need to do some common sense checks on the car - like oil supply lines and wastegate solenoid. The turbo been off for over a week now so the bloody pump will need repriming..... I will chuck a compression tester on the car tomorrow - but I’m fairly confident it’s just a simple turbo failure. 1 Quote Only here once
cbclotus
Hi MR K .Why not bypass the turbo and go na .😳 .i will get my coat .....Hope you get it sorted fine looking car .Mike
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted January 15, 2020 Author Gold FFM Report Share Posted January 15, 2020 Sadly @cbclotus that’s not an option. Luckily I’ve an Evora sat for everyday use. The compression tester check this morning was almost pointless - once I saw plug 4 the measurement on that cylinder was a mere formality. 30psi on that cylinder so it’s looking like a blown head gasket. Ho hum. on the plus side - I’ll pull the engine, whip the head off, check the valves, have the head pressure tested, port and polish some bits here and there and whack it back together. If there’s anything else broken then that’ll be addressed. Cam belts now been on the car for two whole years - so I’ll change that while I’m there - looks like the blue belt didn’t last any longer that the factory gates one 🤭 Its looking like it could well have been an overboost issue which caused this since error code 26 was logged on the ecu - so to ensure that doesn’t occur again - a boost controller will be fitted into the car. massive praise to Martin at Turbo Technics today whom is rebuilding the turbo as required for a very reasonable price indeed. onwards and upwards - let’s see what I find when I pull that engine. 1 Quote Only here once
