Mileage anxiety

Recommended Posts

Main limitation for me at the moment is the 1984 tyres. Having now retired my Esprit from concours events I will aim to rack up some more miles once the recently made Pirellis are back on.

I'm about to hit 39k miles in my Exige. Had it just over a year and done 21k miles since I got it.

It's a tricky one, I know the depreciation won't be a nice amount if I ever sell it, but at the same time, for the amount of fun I've had in the car this year alone it's worth it.

Funny thing is that although my car is one of the highest mileage Exige S3s now, it will be one of the best condition ones.  I've got rid of all the niggles, I've replaced most of the suspension bushes, I've improved the gear shift with new cables, I've had the car detailed and covered in new paint protection film and I'm now fully refreshing and updating the interior to as new condition.

Having said that, if someone does miles and isn't prepared to spend the money on the car to do them, you can have a lemon. Just look at most VX220s...

Easy on the VX220's. Mines a peach. Previous owner did full suspension refresh and changed all clam / bonnet bolts etc for stainless and put full carpet in before I bought it.

Just had both clams off and she is very tidy underneath for a 16 year old car. I've just added proalloy 60ltr fuel tank and upgraded fuel pump. Spitfire tie rods, pro alloy radiator, chargecooler rad, oil catch can, braided brake hoses, and supercharger, harness bar and harness etc.

Oh, and she is about to get gearbox oil cooler and a nice new 8" electronic dash with lap timing etc.

Shit. Just proved your point. You do need to spend to keep them good.... :)

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

Nobody mention esprits which have been badly maintained previously. I might cry - again....

Crocodile tears springs to mind. Barry, your the saviour of all poor and sadly neglected Esprit's. For that, you will just have to live with the abuse.

This is exactly my point, everything has to be replaced at a certain stage.  I like my cars to be perfect and unless the previous owner had done everything I had a project on my hands. Whoever bought my VX220 had a significantly better car than I did when I bought it.
