I started  this thread with:

It looks like that my Lotus cars are all a bit non standard.

Here is the next difference:

The aluminium tube does not have the diversion for the thermo switch.

See Picture pos 10, 8 and 7.

Where else could I find the thermo switch for the fan ?

Now I wan to swap the engine against another one.

I see so many pictures where they take out motor and gearbox in one piece.

One simple question: Is there any reason against taking the motor out alone and leave the gearbox in ?

The reason people take them out and put them in a a single unit is it's arguably easier that way. It's a bigger and heavier lump, but still lots of us find it easier.

I took just the engine out and it was not difficult. I do not anticipate any dramas when I slot it back in.

Does anyone knows what information behind all these numbers could be ?
