Following on from the other thread concerning my search for a S4s, I today, as planned visited UK sportscars........

Well, I'm glad I spoke to Robin before he left to come down with me, because despite receiving confirmation via Email on Friday that UKSC were ok to meet me at lunchtime today, they apparently sold the car on Saturday and couldn't be bothered to mail me and save me the 250 mile round trip to Kent.......

When I challenged them they coould only say "we thought you were coming down on Saturday".....

So I'm mightily pissed off and have joined the ranks of people happy to stand up and slag them off.....

Unbelievable service (reminds me i really must remove the UKSC plates off mine!) how hard is it to just make a simple phone call I really cant belive it

Intresting there is one on Bary Ely i think was talked about before thats still there cant remember much i'm sure the font of knowledge mr fish will jog our memmories

interestingly enough, I'm off to see barry tomorrow.....

On the subject of "i wonder if it's really sold" I did think that....

my thoughts were that either

A) it's not really, and they were nervous of any possible "knowledge" together with my pushing on the price

B ) Someone else has been keeping an eye on these threads and has guzzumped me !

C)it really has been sold and it's just some weird coincidence

Anyhow, it's back to the drawing board for me....

Oh, and I think the stripe on the green car really is on it! I'll report on what i find...

In the mean time, if anyone comes across a good S4s, you know where I am

Not wanting to throw a spanner in the works, but, I have heard people talk about Barry Ely before as well and the words "Barry Ely" & "barge pole" came into the conversation, which may explain why he's had these cars a while, and again his cars seem to be overpriced, maybe he uses the same price guide as UKsc.

but I've also heard good stuff about Barry too....

A few friends have had their Elises through his hands, and generally the feedback I got on SELOC when I asked was pretty good; along the lines of "it's not pretty and your car ends up dirty but its a good place"

However, my cars have always been through Lakeside, so I'm used to good mechanics but a dirty car!!

I am suprised UKSC sold anything on Saturday. I was around Ashford way at the weekend, and despite numerous calls to them and diverts to a mobile, I left messages and despite this, no one has taken the time to ring me back.

Robin can remember i'm sure. I drove from Oxford to manchester to look at an Esprit,

got within ten minutes from his house, phone rings and the guy 'has to go out, for the rest of the day, sorry'.

Have just caught up with the forums having been away the last couple of days.

Can't quite believe what happened to you Paul - I guess it could be a really bizarre coincidence that someone decided to buy it 2 days before you were potentially going to. The gazumping possibility seems more plausible - if the new owner is out there reading this, shame on you and as there's only just over 100 members of the forum, you won't be able to hide in the shadows forever

But what I find the most unbelievable is the complete lack of customer care by UKSC and it does only confirm what we've all been saying and I, for one, would like to apologise for encouraging you to even consider checking out a car they had for sale.

It appears the car is no longer on their website - I'm considering popping over there in the next couple of days to pose as a prospective buyer and see if it suddenly reappears...

What can I say?

I have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement you have all given me as a prospective Esprit owner....

Well, here's some news...

Having now seen half a dozen S4s's (excluding the one at UKSC) and driven them all (they're right what they say.... they ARE all different when you drive them!) I spent half a day with Barry Ely today;

Subject to inspection and one or two little bits that we have agreed on that he'll do, I will take posession og the green Esprit pictured above on the 23rd..

It's in really good condition as far as I can see and has had only two owners.

Drove her for a while today; Lovely.

Barry also took me out for a spirited spin; Does anyone have any new underwear they can lend me?

So, prepare for a nice avatar from me in due course......

Oh, and the yellow stripe is real... not bad in the flesh, but as it's only vinyl it can come off if I decide I don't like it........ or you guys give me too much stick!

Once again, thanks....

So glad you've found the car for you.

Lotus Racing Green would be my second choice after Pacific/Azure Blue. It really does look good, even if it does have bright yellow stripes. I thought 'Go-Faster' stripes were only put on cars that needed to *look* like they could go faster - don't think thats the case for the S4s

Now you've got a 2 week wait until you can get your hands on it - possibly the longest 2 weeks of your life, but will pail into insignificance the minute you drive it off the forecourt.
