Does a Heater Trouble Shooting Guide exist?

Want to fix the heater on my 89 turbo esprit,

Must admit, I'm worried it will be my new hobby I don't need, judging by the number of posts & 

sophistication of the system.

Keen for any help diagnosing the issue,

What wrong with yours?

 

Some quirks are designed-in (as in, the face-level vents can produce A/C but not heat)

Other issues are well documented (but require SEARCH skills). Vacuum leaks, clogged heater matrix, etc.

1. Check all the thin, black vacuum hoses & their rubber connectors are not split & leaking.

2. Check the vacuum pump is working.

Sometime I get luke warm air out of the windscreen vents, sometimes I don't.

Would like to narrow down my learning curve,
