Esprit S1 or S2 ?

Recommended Posts

I saw this nimble looking Esprit go past me in West London this morning.
Initially I thought that's a great looking S2 but then noticed the lack of intake/cooling ducts + the wolfrace alloys.
Or is this a late S1 with black spoiler and sills? I think it was on an 'R' plate, maybe a hybrid of both whilst replacing the S1 with the S2.

I reckon an S1 Mark.  You must have been quick off the mark to catch a shot of that as it passed.

That front spoiler is definitely S1.  I've seen some late S1s with the revised S2 spoiler but I'd imagine these were not produced in great numbers.

No ears for cooling the engine bay as you mentioned is also a giveaway.

Not seen an S1 with sills painted black before.  Personal preference would be to keep them body colour.  This makes the car look squat and compact in side profile giving it a more planted look.

I've not seen this car before.  Does anyone recognise it?

Thanks Gavin, as I was walking to work I saw it come out of Askew Rd (W12), I got my camera phone ready and it fortunately passed me twice on Goldhawk Rd. It reminded me of one of the last S1's that Scott Walker had for sale a few years ago.

It was moving so fast that I almost missed it, shame I didn't get a shot of the reg but I think It may of been OHR...R.

With Nicholas Mee (Aston specialist) being on the same road I see every Aston Martin on a daily basis along with other classics but nothing gives me a buzz like seeing an early Esprit go by.

100% S1.  :)

Just had the sills painted black.

S2 would have the flag style mirrors, wraparound spoiler, ears, and probably would not have been retrofitted with Wolfies.

Also, if you look at the tailpipe and how close it is to a bumper, that looks like an S1 silencer/valance arrangement;  On the S2 the tip is lower down.

Thanks Tony; I think the black sill confused me in all the excitement of seeing one yesterday.

It still looked great with this modification; anyone know anything about this S1? Someone here must know it.

Saw the same car today, S1. The sills may have been painted way back when people were trying to make their S1’s look like S2’s.

It's an S1.  Nothing like an S2.
