Oh flippin eck...

Sorry to wander off topic, but cutting and pasting from that thread....

==_=_=_=_=

Good coaching style from Andy, Scott & Alan, with a focus on safety throughout the day. Nice to meet Saj, Paul, Andy & Gary.

Unfortunately the day didnt end so well for me when 15mins before the planned 16h00 ending I suffered a sudden tyre deflation during the high-speed oversteer-correction session , folding the inner sidewall of the tyre inside the rest of it (weirdly) and chewing the  wheel up badly :(

I was stranded in the middle of the track, so ruined the last runs for everyone. Sorry boys.

It was a new MPSS that had been on the car for just 3 weeks and less than 300 miles. FFS.

You can hear it pop off the rim about 1/3 of the way through the bend at approx 75mph, just as the surface changes. There is a slight change in surface height/angle but nothing significant. Not sure if the tyre lost pressure on the run up to the bend,  but the evora is the first car I've ever had with tyre pressure monitors, and i'do been keeping a close eye on everything all day - there were no warnings when I set off for that run.

Was yesterday considering whether it would be possible to refurb it, but there could be damage that would only show under x-ray- don't think I'd ever trust it again. So a new wheel and tyre needed - this wheel will be cleaned up and made into a table or a clock face.

Might contact Michelin to see what they think.....

Vid is a bit dark unfortunately- cheap camera.

hIgh speed deflation

Pics overexposed so you can see detail - as above, the inner shoulder of the tyre ended up completely tucked inside the outer, so it has folded over. Which is weird. Whilst the tyre was wriggling around it smacked the inner arch and knocked the bumper clip out of alignment slightly. Think that will be an easy fix.

Ok. As the tire were fitted only three weeks prior to this, it really makes me think of a problem on the bead or the rubber area of it(like a slight cut or default at one place) that probably happened on the mounting machine or transport. Then you had no problem as long as you didn't pushed really hard on the tire, but when it happened, sudden pressure lost.

It happened to me on a front tire during testing once. When we analyzed it, the problem was clear. But I didn't had the shoulder folding away.. Just the tire jumping off the rim and stuck in the wheel arch.

Went round a corner and a schoolboy riding a bike saw the car and his jaw dropped in amazement, he almost fell off his bike.  The day after, a group of tourists had stopped to look at something on an ipad, they looked up when they heard the car and started taking pictures with the ipad.  Driving through a car park today a bunch of kids saw the car and ran after us halfway round the car park.  No one bats an eyelid when a Porsche is around but the reaction an Evora gets is hilarious.

Went to the Supermarket on Sunday with my nephew in the back and as he was with me I parked in a Parent & Child space, I am sure you can work out where this is going........

As I pull in to the space, a woman pushing a trolly past stops suddenly and gives the car and then me the look of the crazy mother who is only ever 5 seconds from exploding if everything isn't perfect for little Johnny/Timmy who is a Little Angel*

As I get out of the car she exclaims loudly in a voice designed to embarrass me "you can't park there", mildly bored by my enforced excursion I decide to have fun and reply "well I know he's my nephew but it's the spirit that counts".  Luckily for me she was unable to actually listen or process what I'd said as she was too busy planning her rant.

The rant when it came was a good one, the volume gradually increased as did the red facedness, I'm deducting points for the lack of spittle and lack of really inventive swearing but a solid 8/10.  15 seconds in I start laughing, I can't help it, it's my natural reaction when anyone goes properly mental in my presence as they look so silly.  This makes the situation worse, now she's really, really angry, volume is turned up to 11.  5 people have stopped to watch.  30 seconds in, I reach down and pull the seat forward.  5 seconds later my nephew clambers out of the car...............

Silence..................................

I close the door.

I lock the car.

2 of the spectators start laughing.

I amble off towards the shop with nephew in tow.

5 minutes later........ "Uncle Paul, what's a penis extension?"

Been there, done that.

Although in my case, the story involved my daughter and a couple of managers from a Wymondham supermarket (so, arguably, they should have known better). There was (slightly) less ranting and spittle but still plenty of red faces and handshakes when I finally got my daughter out of her car seat.

As per the above I have had the same a few times.
Most recently I picked up my son from school and a friend, we popped to ASDA to grab some food, so I park in the parent and child spot (both kids 5).
2 random people who were not together started ranting about me and cocks who drive flash cars thinking they can park anywhere. Assistant manager appeared from somewhere was about to chime in also, and it was at that point I was moving the seat forward allowing two kids to jump up.

Just silence from all .... no apology, just walked off.

People really are muppets.

Hilarious! I've got to try that. I'm going to borrow my 7-year-old nephew for the afternoon and go on a tour of the local supermarkets. Pity my dash-cam doesn't record sound.

Why is that @Evo400? Because you think we are all old doddery halfwits who don't know how to have fun?

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

I don't park in the parent & child bays any more.  Parked the Elan in one once, with rear facing child seat clearly visible in passenger seat.  Came back from 45 mins shopping with toddler to find all four Lotus-logo'd valve caps missing and all four tyres flat

So yesterday i had to wait in a tesco car park whilst mrs mik did some shopping.

Skinny bloke in his 40's (estimate : did not verify his dob) comes past with an older bloke. I assume the older bloke to be his father, but since he plays no part in this story - I don't care.

Bloke: mate - nice car

mik: cheers

Bloke: did you see this on top gear?

mik: <scours memory> erm - don't think so

Bloke: you need to see it. It's the only 4ciking car in the world that a Chinook helicopter couldn't get a target fix on mate. Cos they <waves arm like a fish swimmimg> dart about so quickly man.

mik: <oh ffs> yeah? (laughs)

Bloke: yeah! You 4ciking need to see it mate. Mental! And wen these came out you could pick one up for 16 grand, but now?

Mik: yeah?

Bloke: now you can't get them anywhere!

mik: yeah I know <unconsciously slides down the seat a bit to try and hide from nutter>

So, mine is orange...

I didn't buy it to turn heads, I prefer flying under the radar, but I loved the colour so much it had to happen, even knowing that it would... erm... stand out a bit. I wasn't prepared for quite how much.

Having had the car for little more than a week there have of course been lots of turned heads, my wife followed me through town in her V60 Polestar the other day (for the uninitiated, nearly as loud and burbly as the Evora) and was rather amused by the double takes, phones popping out for photos etc. The cumulative noise of the cars echoing off the buildings was something to behold, and nobody would have thought that the unassuming Volvo behind me was contributing to it.

Picked up a child seat at Toys R Us on the way home from the garage, during the fitting the lady from the shop was taking notes so she could tell her son when she got home.

Mobbed by 20 schoolchildren the second day of ownership when I picked by daughter up from pre-school, arguing about whether it was a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.

I've had women pull up along side me in traffic on three separate occasions and ask if I wanted to swap keys or some such, which I'm fairly certain was euphemistic on one or more of said occasions.

Generally all positive attention, though when I was filling up the other night the chap asked in a not-entirely-friendly-tone "what's a young lad like you doing with a car like that" (I'm 34, but he looked around 60, so perhaps a bit of "everyone younger than me looks 12" syndrome). I nonchalantly responded "just driving", and he muttered something under his breath I couldn't quite make out.

Oh and also every tw__ in a GTI/RS/ST/Msport wants to have a go. It's one thing when they nail it off the lights and look daft because I'm not interested in playing and roll off gently, but I've been cut off by two cars in the last week (RS4 and Golf GTI) trying to prove something, particularly dangerously in the Golf.

And all in barely a week of ownership! Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of the attention, I mean it's great when you make a kid's day as you drive past, but I find the adult attention awkward at times. I'm sure I'll get used to it though!

I'd never dare park it in a parent/child spot, whilst I'd relish the awkwardness in getting a telling off before I help my daughter out of the back, keying would be my main concern. My wife used to have a blue badge for a condition with no outward signs of disability, and the lip we had from people parking in disabled spaces in a "flash" (not even that flash) BMW was ridiculous. And then comments like "you don't even look disabled" to seeing the badge!

  • 2 weeks later...

Only had my Evora NA for 7 weeks, and took it out on its first event today - the Supercar weekend at Beaulieu today.

I was astonished by how it was received...we had our photo taken a couple of times on the way there, and on parking the kids in the car next to where we parked were getting very excited when we pulled up alongside.  On the way home, we were following a green Lambo Huracan and were getting videoed and photos as much as that was.

I am not going to pretend the car was in the same league as the Lambo, but it was great fun being part of that sort of company for the first time.  The car was punching unbelievably above its cost in the face of some pretty stellar company.  I was hugely impressed!

No, my car was in the car park!  I only got the tickets last week and the thought of joining TFL didn't even cross my mind.  I did nearly gatecrash a convoy heading there, I was two cars in front of a long line of Loti.

We looked round the display at 11;00 ish and I didn't see anyone I knew or recognised.  I did pop back later in the day and chatted with Bibs , wish I had a bit more time over that side.  I will come on the stand next year, maybe with the Esprit
