Peoples’ reaction to your Evora

Never had a complaint with my air con in the Evora S1 and not now in the 410.  I can't be arsed with these digital readouts and don't believe them anyway. My wife has dual control climate in her Qashqai and there is no way that is accurate re the temjp. You just find the right setting and leave it there. Same with the Evora - twiddle the dial till you get what you want and hey presto.

I do also get your point re the ECU and traction control. But the OP did say "minimal computers" and compared to a modern M3/M4, Tesla, Lexus, Porsche the Evora is fantastically light on the super tech. Part of its charm to me and something less to go wrong. That tech gets seriously expensive to fix and the electronics do degrade over time meaning they are harder to maintain (albeit after many years).

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

Don't get me wrong. I love the Evora and its Bosch traction/engine linked system. It's  a great use of technology by Lotus, it's what they are good at, I just don't get the less computer control is better argument in this level of car. The Elise is the 'simple' car or should be. The Evora is the best of the best that Lotus can make and should showcase that.

As for the AC we are never going to agree, a bit like the sound system. Either have it and have the best or don't bother.  These antiquated after thoughts are what let the car down.

I watched Harry's Garage video of the black badge RR Wraith. The AC is no doubt temp regulated, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the controls were just rotary 'sliders' with blue or red you dialled to suit your comfortable temp without a temp readout. Lovely.

No complaints with my S1 Evora AC which does a great job on the hottest of UK weather. I'm yet to try European climates though.

I've just noticed / twigged that you live in the Charente @Bruss. my wee village here in Scotland is twinned with Fleac (my daughter spend school holidays in a Chocolatier there learning to speak French) new Angouleme. Anywhere near you?  I keep meaning to jump over every September for the motor festival.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

Poitiers area?  Is the motor festival in September a good shout?

Not Poitiers. Search ecuras 16220 on google maps.

Circuit de Remparts Sept Angouleme is a good weekend. Friday night arrival and concours d'elegance. Saturday wandering the streets and pits. Some cars will be out on a road rally around the country. Sunday is the street racing.

There are some people on here that attend most years.

Well, despite this I have to say that in less than a week my Evora ownership has created way more positive social interactions than I ever anticipated.

A journey to the supermarket takes considerably longer than usual because returning to the car usually includes a chat with onlookers who ask what it is, comment on how great it looks and ask to take photos.

Its genuinly a delight to own and drive a car which attracts such admiration and gives onlookers such joy.

Hopefully my engine light is just something minor and I can get back on the road again soon! :)

Its kinda odd this really! I mean the Evora has been around for nearly a decade! Shows just how rare they are really!

I was waiting to pay for fuel the other day and noticed some guy walking slowly and deliberately around my car, stopping at each side. When I went out, he asked me what it was, I pointed at the 'Lotus' badge! He said he had never seen one and much preferred the looks to his Porsche!!

And then on the way home, a 'Red'! Ferrari was coming towards me and flashed his lights and waved!!! 🤣

Make we wonder... does Lotus ever do any advertising?... The 410 and 430 would surely make super magazine articles! And hopefully generate some sales!

I don't think they do anywhere near enough advertising / general marketing.  To drive a Porsche and not know what a Lotus is screams to me that Lotus aren't covering their bases over basic product exposure over the various walks of life; which is such a shame for that Porsche driver, he might have bought a Lotus instead.

I'm not sure about that - it just highlights that some Porsche owners arent actually particularly interested in cars. I am sure you can say the same for some Ferrari owners. They are bought because the owner can, not because the owner is particularly interested in what they can do..... 😕

Not so sure about that: I think Hexagon would rather sell you another Porsche!

They only have a 3 year-old Elise and 2 new Exiges in stock. No Evoras at all!

Oh and an incorrect colour Elan +2S 130/5 fresh from restoration a mere 30 years ago at... wait for it....

£48,500.00

That is odd then, they usually carry a decent amount of stock most of the time.

I highly agree with this, they really need to spend even a couple more pounds getting the word out.  While I'm not the biggest petrolhead I do have an interest in cars and have always admired Lotus and their design philosophy and from an early age have aspired to own an Elise or Exige.  But around a year ago when I was trying to decide what my next car would be (fun but still daily driver) I hadn't even heard of the Evora and totally dismissed Lotus as they don't do "comfortable" cars.  It was after some time of searching a reading reviews of other sports cars that I stubbled on upon the Evora.  So if someone like me hadn't heard of an Evora its not surprising lots of the general public have not heard of it either.

Last weekend at Duxford standing next to my car, an Evora 400 and Exige 380 a chap and his family asked if Lotus still made cars! Bearing in mind to be at a car event (albeit at a Aeroplane bases museum) you'd think they'd have a keen interest in automotive, and the fact I was standing next to new cars, I was surprised.

I did set him straight but it seems there's a long way before Lotus is deemed as mainstream (maybe that's a good thing?) He mentioned both Mclaren and Tesla who from a manufacturing point of view are very much fledglings in comparison.

They just sold their 410 sport demo and awaiting delivery of a GT410 Demo. Lotus are the only brand new car they would do and on order cars is their clear focus, they do second hand Porsches, BMW and many other classics so will take back you non lotus when you will order a new one...

the fact there hasn’t been a London dealer for over 10 years when they restarted distributing those means there are not that many second hand lotus getting traded in London yet.

thats just unbelievable really.. but nit expected..

funny enough, about 2 years ago, my dad (70 plus ) likes a bit of f1 and cars, couldnt belive lotus still made cars...   , didnt think too much of it at the time. just laughed it off, byt on reflection .  he reads the paper everyday, watches f1, is always on the internet, has a couple of publications.. geographic / digest blah blah ..  and is a pretty well educated man..  to not be aware of the lotus brand was not down to him being unknowledgeable, but totally rubbish brand awareness/advertising by lotus....  .

and we only live an hour away from Hethel!  for which we have since been.... and after the visit on the way home, he even said to me, Wow thats was impressive, do they not have marketing strategy any more ..

hed have a suv lotus in a flash,  sadly not as felxible so needs an easy access car..

they probably wont advertise it tho so he wont knwo it exisits :)

The question is, if a Lotus was as common as a Porsche, would any of us have bought one. That rarity is part of the allure.
