Speak to Mike at Lotus Bits is the best advice.

I went the other way, from Auto to Manual.

The Lotus part number for the bell housing is AO75F0330F. It is different for the Auto box if I remember correctly.

But you will also need the following parts;

Flywheel, Flexiplate, Propshaft, Selector lever, Pedal box, Kickdown cable, Inhibitor Switch, Transmission Oil Cooler and pipework.

There is a surprising amount of work to complete the changeover. The worst part is changing out the pedal box. That was a nightmare.

If I were you I'd go for the ZF 4 speed auto as used on the Excel SA - it suits the engine much better. It won't fit the Elite chassis, however, and I'm not sure whether it's feasible to modify the chassis to fit.

I have an Elite 504 and when i had the engine out i did consider going manual but decided to stick with auto. They are rare now as a lot have been converted. My idea was to one of each but SWMBO has other ideas. 😀

Good exchange and post. I have an Eclat 524 with auto and I agree the box saps the power. Just doesn’t seem to match the engine. Seemed a good idea at the time I bought it...

I’ve just had the engine rebuilt and now starting on what to do with the gearbox. As I’m in North America I’m hoping I have an easy alternative. Heading to transmission specialist to see what they can offer The box has been used in many applications. Jags, MG, so I can handle the power but not the torque band of he 907. My view anyway. I’m hoping they have a box of tricks

Will keep you posted.

my reason for changing is that I have a left knee problem and I don't want to give up driving my lotus

Why not buy an Elite Auto or an Excel Auto. Both rare cars and hard to come by but I have both available.

On behalf of a friend.

Rare one for sale. Lotus Riviera. Currently owned by a rather nice guy who can no longer drive it due to and injury which has left him with an almost powerless left shoulder and arm. This car underwent an engine rebuild and interior retrim a few years ago. I have known the current owner for several years and it's a real wrench for him to sell it, but realistically, he knows he can no longer drive it. Pictures and details now available on request along with Lotus certificate of authenticity and the usual letter from Andy Graham with the car's original spec.
