Fuel Pump Running

Recommended Posts

Driving around a bit yesterday...stopped to pick up a few things and when I got back to the car (15 minutes later) the fans were running with the car turned off, key out, alarm on??? Drove home and parked in the garage. Shut down the motor and the fuel pump keep runnig. I had to pull the fuse to stop it! Any suggestions as to what gremlin may have crawled up my tailpipe??? I just got the car back after the belts were replaced, valves bent and engine pulled and repaired.........Are we having fun yet?????????

Are you sure that it was the fuel pump that was running? It could have been the electric water circulation pump. I think that both the fuel pump and the recirculation pump have relay connections with each other.

I am not certain...The pump is located on the drivers side under the car as far outboard as possible to mount it. It is about 2" in diameter and the hose coming off the pump is quite small in diameter. I would not have though about a circulation pump due to the size of the hose. It might be????

Both the primary and secondary fuel pumps are located within the fuel tank.

If the fans were running, this is also an indication that it may well be the recirc. pump.

Well, that would make sence then...It has been quite hot here so I would understand the circ pump running after shut down to ccontinue to circulate the water in the system. Is this what happens. The car is new to me so I am not yet up to speed on all of the systems.

Thanks for your input!

It's the recirc pump (see pic at http://www.espritv8build.co.uk/image%20pag...0_view_jpg.htm) - comes on when the car is turned off if coolant temp rises (over a 100C I believe) after car stops - prevents your engine from cooking itself!
