Got a couple of track days to do and will have around 3,000 on clock and in keeping with other owners a 6 monthly oil change seems sound sense. Was expecting to pay around £200 but was a bit shocked at £416. Apparently they don’t offer an oil service and it has to be classed as a 1st year Service, although it seems there is little else done. May try an independent for this as it seems a very steep cost !! I’d go to an Indy for the mid term services for sure... I had the same thing with silverstone wanted a mid service quoted crazy price... found it with all dealers quoting similar figures. I then found HPE Auto and never looked back on service items. chumaxa 96
Defintely a problem, would love to use them for regular service, but a good specialist with be around 200 for a normal service ... Around silverstone you can use Steve Glugielmi in Daventry, Dan at HPE south of birmingham, or Jon at Legacystorm in Leicester.

Gold FFM C8RKH 6,237 Posted November 1, 2018 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 1, 2018 If it's just an oil change then why not just go to Halfords or Kwik Fit - with both you could take your own oil so you know what was going in and your own filter if you wanted and then effectively just pay their labour charges with the benefit that have the facilities to put the car on a ramp and to dispose of the old oil which is getting a bigger issue for those who do DIY services due to all the waste regulations. Have I missed something? Obviously if the mid-service includes other specific items to Lotus then fair enough, use a specialist etc. Just a thought. Might be barking mad...... 1 Quote Alcohol. Sex. Any of the services include all the Lotus-specific service checks. It really isn't "just an oil change" if whomever is doing the service is experienced and doing a proper job. Just one example, we road test the vehicle, and experience tells you alot about noises and how things should feel when you drive it, so you may identify an issue, or conversely you can say that it drives fine. 58 minutes ago, BfranklynV6 said: I just got quoted >£1k for a 3yr service from a main dealer. Is that about par? From a main dealer, maybe, you have pay for the glossy showroom and courtesy car after all. From this authorised service centre, you could have the service done just about three times for that sort of money. You pays yer money etc... Dave
Gold FFM C8RKH 6,237 Posted November 1, 2018 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 1, 2018 @Hangar 111 but the original question was really just about an oil change hence my reply, not a service. I'd never give them my Lotus to service. @BfranklynV6 - wow for my Evora my main dealer quoted me a 3 year service plan for £1300 so all I can say is your quote seems very steep. Allon white have service pricing on their website. £325 for V6 exige and even with the extra for the jumbo biggie 54k service it is only £725. Quote Alcohol. Sex. Tobacco. Drugs. Chocolate. Meh! Tex 217
I think there is some sense in using a main dealer where possible and i would use them for the annual service while being within the 2 year warranty. My concern is their inability to provide an interim oil change only service at a reasonable cost. Most people perhaps would not require this but I think a regular oil change makes sense and at the same time I want the correct oil and filter used. Using a main dealer for 2 yearly services and 2 interim would cost almost £1,700 or more. Seems pretty steep to me !
Gold FFM C8RKH 6,237 Posted November 1, 2018 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 1, 2018 Not steep but a piss take @Tex. Bear in mind prices I quoted from Allon White are from a main Lotus dealer. I have seen another post which places a (fish tank) 1 way lever valve in this line which gives the option of manually enabling/disabling if thats more appropriate for you. I just took my 430 on track and it was quite annoying not being able to hear the exhaust when most needed. Blipping the throttle for heel n toe was a silent affair and with so many noisy cars around you I had to look at my rpm gauge just to make sure I actually blipped the throttle. I tried this mod on my second session, and for some reason it threw the rpm way off. It would read 9k rpm when I'm actually at 4k. I pulled in the pits again and reattached the hose again. On my last session I decided to try it again and for some reason this time it worked perfectly. Thank you for the tip! Edited November 18, 2018 by BAS
Tex 217
Some Great conditions at Silverstone today amongst the Porsche Gang. Still frustrating to have to short shift in a few places but improved handling set up was some compensation. Met George Williams and you may notice in the video a Green Cup 430 well ahead of a Liquid Yellow Komotec 460 Debate over !!!! Or Over to you George ? 20455A89-61FC-451C-97AE-B9A465D66459.MP4
