Just picked up my first V8 esprit.  After having a N/A Stevens model I've never really lost the lotus but and after a stint in Mercedes Sl, TVR cerbera and Porsche 911's I finally took the plunge to b

Thanks for all the lovely comments.  Up to now I know that it was a lotus owned prototype for the V8 GT, hence why it has a mix of pre and post 98 parts.  Seems to have sport 350 carbon dash bits too

Yes, good colour, haven't seen one in that before either.

Good luck with it. @Barrykearley is the man for V8 advice and @Steve V8 is up to his elbows in one at the moment too!

Not worth starting anything now...🍺

My only advice would be don’t do it - and there’s plenty of ex V8 owners who would agree.

great cars though - but the engine cost is the big worry.

Love the colour! Beautiful car! Hope it treats you well, my V8 sure has! Don't listen to the fearmongers!

Lovely... Is that not an Elise colour? Which if it is, and still original, would further the probability of it being on a Motorshow stand with a host of similarly painted beauties.

Pay no mind to the harvenger of doom, they may be twice as expensive to fix, but they break down three times less often...winner winner, chicken diner.

Love the colour, very unusual! Interesting mix of V8 going on there. What year was it registered? It has a '96/'97 rear wing but '98 on Saturn wheels and what looks like a '98 on small binnacle?

Anyway - enjoy it, I'm sure you will. Nothing delivers torque from zero revs like the 918 does!

Oh and ignore the naysayers, if you talk to any long time V8 owner on here they will tell you that the engine is just like any other - keep it maintained and cared for and it will last forever.

I tempted fate...now my Esprit V8 IS in bits...(sob)

Congratulations on your new V8.  I'm really liking the colour and detailing inside.  Really stunning.

It's very sensible to budget for mishaps, but depending on what kind of "pop" you're talking about, that might be woefully inadequate.  For routine (read non-destructive) rework, that should be a very comfortable fund, but if you have anything more serious involving top or bottom-end damage, that results in the need for replacement heads or crank, cost may be significantly higher especially if relying on a professional Lotus specialist for the work.

If you are totally on top of the maintenance and rigorous with inspections etc, you should have no such worries.

Enjoy yourself !

Ahhhhhhh... Well that explains a lot then. Wow - that is so cool if it really is - have you applied for the provenance from Lotus, or did it come with it?

That would really make it one of a kind!
