Here's one in the right colour

I’ve only gone and bought it!  Any recommendations for insurance company’s? thx for all the info comment from TLF much appreciated.

Hate to say it chaps. But my blue S4 sounds better than the V8  It’s an Esprit - of course I loved it. Hated it in equal measure at times

Have a look in the classic and sportcar article she was in 👍

Found one - it’s old though 2FBC9B82-596A-467F-A259-E9A1BC20B07B.thumb.jpeg.27f3e6d4c1153c0f212cfa0a185362b2.jpeg

PGA although a money pit , looks bloody good in that picture, silver and red leather was a good choice !  Always needed monoblocs fitted though to finish her look off  imo.  :)

Hi Chris, V8's and Esprits in general are prone to rust on pipework suspension any mild steel brackets ect, if this one is clean underneath, rebushed tidy components ect, it indicates a well looked after car.

Standard V8 seats are very comfortable, so will get snapped up by the ageing GT3 owners, hard to find but not impossible.

The only worry would be that impeller. Have a look through the history re turbo/engine work, that must have caused serious damage. Did you test drive? Let her run up to temp until the fans cut in, then, Does air-con work? Does the heater work? Most importantly with a V8 check carefully for any signs of oil in coolant via header tank (have a good sniff) and visa versa via oil filler cap. There's also an expansion tank in the right rear arch behind the wheel. Take a torch

Things to consider and help with the haggle;

Needs cambelts £600 at a specialist, clutch will last circa 20k miles, around £2000 fitted.

Initially looks and sounds a good one, good luck.

I agree, even with the wallet battering he took and the cut knuckles I think secretly he misses the pur of a V8 on start up :) 4 banger good, 8 banger better lol.

Yes I thought the impeller was from the turbo.  I haven't managed to get a paper re a rebuild so is it possible that the engine could have survived that!  I'm hoping the owner will have info.  But I am having to speak to the seller who is acting on their behalf.

Yes Cambelts and service will be first thing on the list.  Is Castle Sports cars in Essex ok? They are the closest to me.

So the dealer has managed to speak to the owner in Hong Kong and he said that he had paperwork with it all and thought it was with the car.  So my question is does anyone think it is possible for that turbo fan let go like that without doing major damage and therefore engine rebuild?

We are close to a deal but they don't have the original seats, only paperwork is the service book.  I can see that the suspension and other parts have been changed and it drives well.  So $64,000 question is what do you think would be a fair price in that state.  I will have to get Cambelts and full service done so I need to factor in that.  £30k? or is that too much or too little they want 35k

I'm going back tomorrow to see it.

thx

Have you been able to determine that the impeller in the glove box is actually from the car?  If you can measure the diameter, then it would be possible to tell if it is likely to be from a different turbo.

If it did let go on this engine pulling load, then almost certainly some of that light metal will have been taken into the combustion cambers.... it's an awful lot of material to be ground away and the air volumes are pretty high.  You really need to determine if the turbo went pop on this engine.......  If it did and no engine work was done, I would be seriously concerned.

On price, I don't think that you can be advised by an outside party.  It's a case of your desire vs. what the seller will accept.   Knowing his circumstances (being overseas), he may just be happy to be rid of the car as long as the offer is decent. When was the clutch last replaced?  As mentioned by Steve, these typically have only approx 20K miles life. That, together with the need for a timing belt service, would be big bargaining chips in my opinion.

Nice one.

Aib were good for me. They will possibly want proof you’ve had something similar previously on risk though.

you will love it - worse case - I’m sure you can list kidneys on eBay 👍

Thx. I picked it up today and it made the 70 miles trip back home so that’s a plus for V8s!   Will be booking into to get major service and cambelts done.

One question does the sunroof come out completely or just tilt?  Thx all. And hope to meet you soon.

Roof does come out. Unclip the handles behind the headrests and slip out.

do not break it - really - don’t.

As Barry says if the roof is glass treat it really gently - they are so large and so delicate and can suddenly let go. I still have the glass one - I think in my loft. Changed it to a Lotus GRP one as The heat in the summer was like being microwaved.

What you need is working Aircon - the glass is just fine then. So glad I put new condenser rads in the S4s.

Look through the front bumper at the condenser rads. If they look saggy - they are knackered and might vacuum test ok but will dump Gas over a week or two.

replaced mine with pattern identical rads for not a huge sum 👍
