If the car and getting it up to standard costs less than £30k I'd say you did very well!

and what a beauty it is too.

I did pay £30k!

Excellent news. I've persuaded Gerald at GST to take a quick look over it for me on Friday Morning!

I'll let you all know what he thinks of it.  Hopefully not too bad.

The Yellow polly bushes, could have been new at the MOT and gone south that quick..   The design is totally wrong for the Esprit.  The Esprit bush is a one piece unit designed to act as a spring with the suspension,  hense not torquing till ride height set.  The yellow crap is designed for it to rotate on the pin..  when fitted to an Esprit the center collar locks as it should on and Esprit but the polly section slips around it and in the arm. With no lube and not designed to do this , it rips them to shred in no time at all..   But of course everyone knows this.. don't they....

I gotta say, I am not a fan of poly bushing cars, i love my spine now that it works properly and I'd liek to keep it that way.

This is an interesting comment.....

ok here's a video of the rear suspension.  Comments please  good and bad.  Also of the car not just my film making skills.

I thought it didn't look too bad for a 20 year old car.

Let me know if I have missed anything.  Happy to back underneath and do some more.

Oh and all the help is much appreciated.

here the front and found the top ball joints need changing.  I suppose they're £200 each!?

Triumph gt6

Do the bottom ones and the track rod ends.

if the front top arms have yellow bushes in - they will need swapping as well - cos they are proper poor fitted there

Contact the DVLA - if anyone is dishing out dodgy MOT's they deserve to be caught.

As the OP pointed out though - it drive fine before the service. So as such could well have been just fine at the mot test.

a tester is not allowed to pick out rubber bits

Feeling very annoyed/agreeved. I have to assume the garage selling the car did not know their mot garage is possibly giving less than perfect MOTs’. If the MOT had failed I would have certainly had a more detailled inspection and may have been able to negotiate a lower price or walked away.  Although in reality I would not have been aware of the high costs of some parts.

the bushes I agree would not have looked bad to the average MOT tester. Those ball joint rubbers are clearly splitting and so would allow dirt ingress.  No wondering what else is wrong.

Thank god Gerald is going to inspect it for me.  I will ask his opinion and if necessary can still inform DVLA on Monday.  The MOT was done 20/6 so have until end of next week to report them.

Here goes guys my first post, I have read many stories on this forum on how bad V8 motors are? I have either been lucky or I'm in for a shock? When I first bought it in 2004 I knew the geometry was out so I had all the shocks and springs done, protec, also all the bushes over to polly type at the same time.... Parts wise it was £400 for the suspension then another £400 fitting and setting up by a lotus specialist in the south west..... I have done fifteen thousand miles in it and had no issues, the only other repairs have been alloy rad from radtec which has been really good with spall fans, and at the same time fitted silicone hoses all the way through with evens waterless coolant. Only other service item have been cam belts, pulleys, and water pump, with a or b services..

The guys who touch it I fully trust over the years I have been taking it, and in May when I took it last, they say to me how spot on it is. Just hearing// reading these stories just make me think I must of been lucky finding the right one? Every time when I turn that key it just puts a smile on my face to hear a eight cylinder behind you..... and such a joy to drive ........and that is what you have bought it for you to enjoy.....  Pleasure to read your comments.

Just love that colour I went to see the grey one in Barnet and it was lovely but higher mileage and corrosion on the chassis arms both front and back.

Are the bottom ball joints available and reasonable may as well do whole front now.

Depending on Gerald’s diagnosis will do the rears in a month or 2 time. Spread out the cost.
