labour time for b service.

Didn't the USA cars have to have a 100,000 mile cambelt warranty? Would that be a factor?

Yes, they did have it 102K miles (or 8 years) , although there's a rumour Lotus had their USA dealers replacing them as part of a service FOC to avoid any potential warranty claims.  I wouldn't fancy trusting the cam belt to last that long when they revised the non USA change interval from 72K miles (or 8 years) to 24k miles (or 8 years).

Anyway, a definitive answer on the service labour hours; the Lotus Class 2 Service Bulletin 2000/18, dated 09/10/00, states that for non USA V8 the A service is 3.4 hours and the B service is 8.4 hours. If renewing the cam belt at the same time then add 4 hours. If undertaking the cam belt tension check & adjustment (every 12k miles) at the same time then add 1.6 hours.

Coolant, brake fluid and clutch fluid renewals are not included in the normal A or B services so additional labour time needs to be allowed for them.

ok after putting the car up on the lift I have discovered the following.  Please look at the 2 videos first one was done 1 or so ago when I had a look around the underneath of the car.  The 2nd one was done 5 minutes ago.

I think I'm in shock.

pre castle service please pay attention to the wishbone polybushes

they have removed all of the bush material.

I would be calling my lawyers now, that is a disgrace and bloody dangerous.

Astonishing and dangerous in equal measures. Also, the radiator support looks like it’s bent, which could potentially indicate a front end impact.

I agree the bushes were on the way out but still had life left in them until I got them changed and there was no movement at all.  Why would they gouge out the remaining without putting new ones in?

Probably waiting for you to take it back to them to have them change the bushes, so they can royally shaft you all over again.

Maybe so they could blame that instead of the fact they’ve cocked up bleeding the brakes

And welcome the the pleasures of v8 ownership and specialist dealers. *spoken with limited experience*

And for God’s sake get someone who knows what they’re doing to check that car out. There’s no telling what horror stories are waiting in the wings, including what I mentioned previously.

Before I go further can you all confirm that the 1st video showing the bushes in a partworn but useable state.  Or how would you describe them.  I my opinion they were on my list of things to do in the winter but not urgent.

1st video, they’re present. 2nd video, they’re not. And they don’t fall out on their own.

I spoke to a couple of esprit owners today and there’s a guy in Newmarket call GTS Performance.  Only does lotus.  I’ll be going to him. Very highly recommended.

thx

Sorry but I would say those bushes were well and truly shagged. Having said that a main dealer should have pointed them out and certainly not returned the car in an unfit state for the road (you have some rights on this matter) - I had the same issue with a Volvo main dealer, no one was interested until I got hold of the senior management who couldn't get the car back and sorted quick enough, you will probably have to go higher than a service / workshop manager as he will probably try and cover his arse. A good starting question is to ask why they returned a car in a dangerous and unroadworthy condition - should get their attention.

I think you may also have a leaky radiator (maybe wrong). As stated get a specialist who really knows these cars to inspect it and tell you what needs doing (hopefully you will not be as shocked as I was when mine was inspected after purchase).

Also don't drive it - you know it's not roadworthy and if you have an accident....

Ps - I’ve been in similar dire straits with these cars. Ffs - don’t let it spoil the ownership experience. It fully ruined the V8 for me.

suck it up - breathe deep and go again. Esprits are absolutely amazing vehicles - unlike anything frankly.

Those bushes are yellow - they are amazingly strong and solid - but shit two part type ones with an insert. Something clearly isn’t sitting right in this situation

Here’s a yellow poly. You can pull them apart by hand. A lotac or Lotus bush you cannot86B81070-6D80-4EC0-9B75-7F2AE12DB7EA.thumb.jpeg.4097772c702625fb48ccd942be63166f.jpeg
