andydclements 749 Posted July 22, 2018 Report Share Posted July 22, 2018 Apply lots of easing fluid (wd40 / similar), and if you have one use another (1/2" UNF) nut as a sacrificial one, to re-form the thread. To do that, tighten the other nuts, hold the shaft secure using a spanner on one of the existing nuts, and then put the new nut on the thread tighten and undo, and repeat. That should clean the threads enough that the old nut will pass. That assumes you don't have a 1/2" UNF die to clean the threads.
