Unless the policy has changed, you need to return the cup 250 to the dealer that sold you the car, for the first service.

Yes. I need to speak to my dealer as they charged me for Labour too.  No doubt a simple admin error! 🙄

The service is free labour, you pay for the parts, oil and filter and can be undertaken at any lotus approved service centre.

This, with the caveat that if it is not done by the supplying dealer, whomever does it, gets the agreement from that dealer to pay the cross-charge labour (there's a form for this).

Should the customer really need to know this or be concerned with this?

Yeah. Such a shame it's whispers as opposed to a clearly communicated policy.

Dave,

the point I am trying to make is that it is not clear that if you take your car for the 1k service to a dealer that you did not buy it from it is not clear that the dealer needs to have agreement from the supplying dealer in order to reclaim the labour costs.

So in my case, I bought my car from lotus Silverstone who are 500 miles away as they had the new car I wanted in stock.  I took it to my local dealer for the 1k service and got charged for the labour and the parts. No mention was made of the need for the dealer to fill in a form in advance to get agreement to recover the labour charges etc.

It is not mentioned anywhere in the handbook or service book. So, as new owners, how are we supposed to know this stuff?  Hence the comment re whispers as opposed to a clearly communicated policy.

As a customer, it is  not unreasonable to expect the servicing dealer to do the work and then behind the scenes submit the necessary paperwork to reclaim the Labour. I guess over time across the dealers it would all wash out roughly even. As a customer, I should not have to care about this behind the scenes stuff.

You're not, and don't need to, but your dealer definitely should!  Especially the one that you have probably used!

Dave

I had a suspicion that I had been fleased. You seem to have confirmed it!  Thanks Dave.
