I’ve got one of those on my Type R and I’ve taken it to a few tyre garages and they said as long as you can’t see the chords you are fine. I still woulda thought the garage would replace it given the low cost to them.
Rambo
I wouldn't even take a car out of my garage with a gash like that, let alone on a public road 😲
Gold FFM TdM Posted December 29, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 29, 2022 If it were just a chunk of the wheel protector lip, no problem, that looks relatively deep from the pic and right up the wall. I'd want to change that Not a reason to not have a look at the car though if you are close might be great apart from not being able to park. Edmundo2
Clearly people have different levels of expectation...! If its not bang on I'm not happy...I can live with a bit of dirt or surface rust on a substantial part but anything rotten, damaged, faulty or unsightly has to be replaced... Each to there own but looking at the wheels, tyres, discs on that car I'd want more...If you don't care about the condition of simple to replace parts then you probably don't care about the rest of it, ( ie all suspension components, rack, brakes, clutch, gear linkage, switches, relays, etc etc ). Perhaps it's a beauty but if a seller can't be arsed to prep a poorly maintained car then they shouldn't expect to sell it.. If its a poverty spec run about I get it but not a performance car..
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted December 30, 2022 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 30, 2022 Totally agree @Edmundo2 and in my experience it is amazing how many dealers don't do this, let alone private sellers. Three things you should never take a chance on especially with sports cars, steering, brakes and suspension and tyres. You'll likely end up in a hedge if you do, or worse. Quote I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.
jerzybondov
I think it’s a price point thing too - you’re not going to find many S1 Evoras sub £30k which are ‘bang on’ in every department, but for £50k++ and esp. with low mileage like this it’s a no brainer to prep the car properly. But perhaps we’re being unkind and the photos got taken before the wheels went off for refurb/new tyre? 🤔 Surface rust on the discs is to be expected at this time of year, but the state of the carriers suggest the car has spent a fair amount of time outside in its life! Also… maybe the dealer is figuring that if you want a 400 in this colour then all this can be sorted in the negotiation and niggly replaceable/fixable stuff isn’t going to put you off? Good luck finding another, and all that… Edited December 30, 2022 by jerzybondov
Daveb99
Tyres are Michelin PSS so discontinued. Possibly the original tyres from new? So the seller would need to replace at least two. Brake discs - replacement would be too expensive for them given they have the ally bells. I’d expect them to either dust them over in silver or discount the car. I’d be more interested in how lipped they are, it isn’t difficult to remove them and refurb them yourself. There’s a sub £50k deal to be had there for someone as it has been available for a good while as others have said. Not helped by those photos showing minor things that could/should/can be easily sorted. Stunning colour - Ice Blue? Can’t have been many of those made.

I disagree. Curbed wheels and a few dings don't mean a car is not properly maintained. Some folk treat cars as fun first, details second, with the emphasis on driving. That doesn't mean they don't service it correctly, warm it up from cold and have mechanical sympathy. Justin

I'm interested, but curious to hear feedback before I go and look at it. Not sure if the car is still available but I bought my Evora 400 from Fish Brothers last March (for a bit more than this on an older plate with higher mileage 🫣). From personal experience, I was happy with the whole process and them as a dealership. They aren’t skimpers as they had changed the rear tyres and supercharger belt before I commited and then followed up on some other bits a post-purchase. When I went to pick up the car it had been beautifully prepared and presented. I agree about the tyre and wheel issue. For me it doesn’t inspire confidence, but on the flip side you’re seeing the car warts and all. It could even be that this is a customer car that they are selling in which case it’s all up for negotiation with the tyres etc. The brake bells look rough due to the car probably standing but there should be no wear on these and the pads with 12k miles. If there is significant brake wear that’s a bad sign. There also appears to be surface oxidisation around the alloy parts in the engine bay which is a bit weird. This is from moisture either dripping off from the boot lid or elsewhere. Bottom line is that 12k miles is very low. It says it’s a 1 owner car. These are big plus points. It clearly has spent a lot of time standing. I would say go and look at it, have a good test drive and carefully inspect the body and the service paperwork but ask in advance about what appears to be a gap between Oct 17 and March 2021. That for me would be the biggest issue - an owner who potentially missed services on a £90k car. You could also I guess then arrange an inspection or take a critical friend with you. Popular Post randomusername
Little bit of an update from me - I went to view the Black 400 at Williams Motor Group on Weds and ended up driving home in it Considering the high-ish mileage it all seems in very good condition, interior is absolutely immaculate bar some scuffs to the kick plates, outside also appears in very good condition apart from a few blemishes where the PPF has been stonechipped.. The only fault I've found so far is the glovebox string is broken/disconnected, which doesn't appear too hard to fix!

Popular Post r3nault
As others have said, there has been some harsh criticism of a potentially minor issue. No one is perfect, it's understandable there could be minor kerbing on a wheel from driving and not leaving a car as a garage queen. As for the gash - easily done at parking speeds, as I found out when my wife clipped a kerb in the family mobile! Since two new tyres would be required anyway, it's probably simply a case of the dealer allowing the buyer to choose their own tyres. It annoyed me no end when I bought a car years ago, and the seller put shitty tyres on just to pass the roadworthy (what you guys call MOT, I guess?) - would have happily paid for proper Michelin rubber if I'd known. They were so shit I had to bin them after two months anyway, could not deal with a hot hatch that understeered at 30 kph. In any case, one can only surmise the condition of a vehicle by viewing it!
Phaeton91
Indeed. I bought a Megane Trophy from a dealership. The auto trader ad photos clearly showed Michelins and when I went to view it they had changed all 4 tyres to brand new Chinese specials. The test drive in February weather was ridiculous- no grip whatsoever. Their argument was that the tyres were worn. What struck me was the ignorance of the dealership and the lengths I had to go to to “negotiate” a price reduction so I could put proper tyres back on it. Walking away wasn’t an option as it was the exact spec I had been looking for for some time. Fortunately, this wasn’t the case with Fish Brothers who replaced with Michelin PSS on my 400. Just a footnote though is to try and get the non manufacturer marked tyres which I believe is what Lotus specced for the Evora ie, avoid the *, N0 and M0 marked PSS as they are specific figment for BMW, Porsche etc. I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes but I’ve read on here that people say it does. @robington- I’d be interested to hear your thoughts when you’ve driven it. Not sure what you’re used to driving but the Evora is definitely a car that will stimulate the senses!

Edmundo2
I'm currently in the market for an Evora S and as such have been watching the market with interest waiting for the right car to come along ..Initially my budget was £35k ish but I'm contemplating pushing nearer to £40k to get the right car..Seemingly this could secure a sports racer etc however I have noticed a few 400's ducking below £45k recently and am wondering how far they will fall...? The reason for the post is this has just come to market which seems quite a low price for a low miles one owner 410 from a dealer? https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/14166801 Just makes me wonder whether this is downward pressure from Emira or just winter/market slowness? If it's the former this only adds to my predicament re diving in and buying an S now vs sitting tight and hoping a 400 could one day be a reality for me.. I'm concious that owners will talk buoyantly about trends and values rising where as prospective buyers will hope the opposite is true, ( until they own one! ), but it was an observation..I've not really been studying the 410 market as intently as the lower priced models as they are beyond my budget but I'd be interested to hear thoughts.. I would guess the 2+0 and cream interior may put some off, even though I think its quite nice! It's probably priced about right now considering the mileage?!
