Ignition Barrel Shear Bolts

and how big are the heads? I'm trying to drill them out as I'm changing the steering column but I don't want to drill through the barrel bracket. Anyone got a piccy or can tell me the dimensions of the bolts?

the threads are 5/16"UNC and 1" long. i replaced mine with Allen headed bolts of the same size.

when you drill them, make sure you drill them Dead center with a Maximum drill of 5mm.

IIRC the bolts are not that tight ,as the shear heads shear off quite quickly, so once a hole has been drilled, ram a allen key or somthing in to screw them out.

false info there, just remembered, once the heads are drilled off ( 8mm drill should do ) the top part of the clamp comes off, revealing the remaining theads in the other half - which can easily be removed

its quite possible that a back street motor factors may have some sheer bolts, but as i said, i just used allen bolts.
