Should I upgrade to HC?

I have to fit new liners and pistons to my 913 LC engine along with new exhaust valves, thrust washers and probably new big ends. Do I upgrade to HC .? What’s the minimum HC spec that works.? Can I just fit new HC pistons, liners and new 104 inlet cam?

thanks

My “totally original” dry sump has HC Internals. It’s all that could be found at the time of rebuilding. Meant that when my wastegate stuck it wasn’t total catastrophic meltdown.

P.s don’t tell anyone!

Believe remarks on the function of AL liners to be correct however, given proper state of tune, one may safely run forged pistons in iron liners rather tightly as long as time is allowed for components' temperatures to normalize before putting the boot to it. Routinely, piston-cylinder clearances are chosen in part to allow for the uninformed owners' inclination to treat the car as if it were another utility mule. This probably applies to head gasket survival as well.

Cheers

There always seems to be some disagreement on this liner issue.

I have to make this decision at some point and I was planning to discuss with PNM and Lotusbits. They would be the experts, albeit Lotusbits seem to focus more on Excel NA engines but would still have useful input I would think.

It might also be a factor that a "real" HC engine has better cylinder-head coolant circulation so temps in the LC might be higher. Also HC run DHLA 45s and LC turbo run 40s so the jetting presumably wont be the same as a real HC.

Also can the boost safely be wound up a bit on an HC conversion?

Chaps

decided to keep as a LC as trying to keep to some sort of budget and just want it back on the road. I checked the MOT history and it has done only about 1000 miles a year for the last 10 years! And I would like to get it running properly ASAP And scare the bejabbers out of the spiders that live in the radiator!

thanks
