MrP_
Yep @Mark030358 is right, Dans decals are 👍 and he’s very easy to deal with. Mine were all based on the OEM ones just matched the colour scheme better, he’s got the typeface sorted, so can knock up proofs pretty damn quick. Does all the variations of filled letters, outlines, multiple colours etc, 2 Quote instagram.com/mycarsetc
Mattmahope
Thanks chaps. I’ve dealt with Dan before and indeed he is great. Not sure I want to advertise that mine is an EX490 as I quite like the stealth aspect/having excuses for my poor driving on track...
Popular Post Mattmahope
Time for a long overdue update... I am really happy with the chargecooled TVS1900 kit that was fitted by Komotec for me last summer and I have been enjoying driving it whenever lockdown conditions have allowed. It feels really strong and is producing serious power, as verified on both Komotec's dyno and RRR's dyno as well. Even in "Race" map producing around 500hp it is only running 80% throttle to save the internals. I have been in discussions with Daniel to carry out a full engine build so I can really maximise the potential of my set-up. He is working on a load of new parts, which are really exciting, but are not all ready yet. Once I factored in the obvious travel difficulties at the moment, I decided it would be best to put the engine build on hold for the time being. That meant I could focus on another part of my project instead... carbon, aero, and aesthetics! Inspired by @Arun_D and @550superfast, I have decided to have the chassis mounted Cup R wing with the Cup R rear hatch fitted by Phill at 24/7 Motorsport. This is a fairly major job that requires cutting the clam and takes up some boot space (although not as much as I had initially feared). I already have the smaller LiteBlox battery fitted, so at least don't have to worry about that getting in the way. To help balance the front aero, I will be fitting a set of @GFWilliams beautiful carbon louvres into the front clam and opening up the wheel arch liners. I know there are issues with debris etc flying up, but I am hopeful that decent mesh will stop the worst of it, and what the mesh doesn't stop I will have to put up with! Hopefully it will be worth it for the wonderful looks alone. The louvres will be fitted by Robin at RJM Body Repairs. Robin did a fantastic job fitting the same louvres for @MAG so I was keen to use him for my project. Since the new rear hatch will come unfinished and the front clam will need repainting after fitting the louvres, I decided that a full respray was the best option. While I actually very much like the Ardent Red on my car, I have always wanted a richer, deeper red colour. After much research, I narrowed it down to a choice of 4 colours - Alfa Rosso Competizione, Aston Martin Hyper Red, Ferrari Rosso Fuoco and Porsche Carmine Red (see pictures attached). Robin kindly sent me some samples and I have spent the last week or so agonizing over the decision. Each of the paints looks lovely and they all look so different depending on the light. Carmine Red is a nice solid red and the darkest in normal daylight. Hyper Red is the most metallic/sparkly and probably the lightest in bright sunlight. Rosso Fuoco is also very metallic/sparkly and is the most light sensitive. It goes from a really bright orangey fire red in the sun to a deep burgundy (almost black) in dull light or shadow. Rosso Competizione is somewhere in the middle. It is more bright/vivid than Rosso Fuoco in most lights other than direct sunlight and is less effected by light conditions. It has a nice amount of metallic/pearl but without being too glittery. I keep changing my mind on a daily basis but will need to make a decision soon. After the respray I will have the car detailed and then most likely fit PPF to the front clam, sills and rear wheel arches. I am debating some kind of ceramic coating too. This is all uncharted territory for me as I have never really been someone who spends much time washing my cars (too busy driving them or working to pay for them!) so I am trying to learn what is good and what is a waste of money. Since I am doing all this body work, I decided it was time to fit the carbon parts that I have always wanted. So I have a carbon roof coming from Jon Seal at Lotus Hard Tops, a carbon front access panel, carbon rear diffuser surround and the carbon side intake scoops from @alias23. The roof and the front access panel I am going to have painted in body colour. As lovely as the carbon is, I personally prefer it as an accent on the car, rather than having loads of it exposed. I also want to get the full effect of the new paintwork, which I think will be stunning, and I want to avoid a 430 Cup replica look. I am in two minds about fitting canards. I understand that they do actually help with front end downforce, but I'm not convinced by the looks. On that basis I've decided to wait and see on those - they can always be added at a later date. I've also always wanted to replace the rather unattractive hexagonal plastic grilles from the front intakes. I like the look of the metal mesh in the new 410/430 cars but the mesh used is too fragile and gets easily dented. Phill at 24/7 is having a think on whether there is a suitable replacement that can be fabricated, which will look better than the plastic but be tougher than the standard mesh. To top off the new looks, I saw a set of personal plates advertised for sale that I bought on a bit of a whim. I've never been a big fan of personal plates really but the standard plates on my car are rather large and cover a lot of the front intake in particular. Given that I now have the chargecooler pre-rad in there, I want to maximise air flow as much as possible. So following the work my car will be sporting "S3 EXG" plates from Four Dot, which apparently are the smallest road legal plates available. Seemed appropriate for my Series 3 Exige! Finally, while the car is in pieces anyway, Phill is going to do a couple of other bits and pieces for me. These include fitting a new front radiator and wheel stud kit, refurbishing the brakes and wheels, and sending my Ohlins off to MGR for a refurb and fitting a high speed blow off valve to hopefully improve road comfort a little. Hopefully all the work will be completed before Easter so that I will have a "new" car back ready to enjoy as the weather improves and lockdown restrictions are slowly lifted. I can't wait!
stephenwhyte
Did someone say “Fire Red!”🔥😎 Never one to miss an opportunity... Allow me....by way of assistance😉
Mattmahope
@stephenwhyte thanks for the assistance! I can assure you that I have spent much time studying pictures of your stunning car. Your Fire Red is most similar to the Ferrari Rosso Fuoco I am looking at I believe. Seems to change colour quite dramatically depending on the lighting. Looks fantastic!
stephenwhyte
Best of luck with the decision making - whenever I hear Fire Red mentioned I get a 🔥 alert😎😉

Remonvdh
I think all 4 colours look great, but if it was my decision it would be Alfa Rosso Competizione. Really love that color and I assume it look awesome on a V6 🥰

I've been trying to find one for the Exige v6, but had no luck I actually got it from my good friend @alias23 as he had a spare kicking around. Afraid I don’t know where he got it from. Maybe he can point you in the right direction. @Remonvdhthanks, I’m glad you like all the colours. I agree - there’s not a bad one amongst them and all will be an improvement on what I have now. The Alfa RC colour is glorious, although that is slightly more complicated than the others because it turns out that there are in fact three different paint codes for the same colour, each of which is slightly different from the others! Mattmahope
The wheel arch vents have now been beautifully installed by Robin at RJM Body Repairs and he is making good progress on the respray too. After much deliberation I decided to go with the Alfa Romeo Rosso Competizione from the hand painted 8C and 4C. From the initial pictures I very happy with my choice. Can’t wait to see the full thing once it’s done.
Mattmahope
This picture shows how massive the Komotec EX500 carbon air box is, even compared to the (already large) standard KT intake! The TVS1900 charger with its enlarged throttle body will guzzle as much air as it can get down its throat, and it does sound good doing ingesting to boot.

Forthedrive
Brought myself a sport 350 and picking it up next week, and blown away by your build, however worried about the toll it may now take on my bank account given all the ideas your build has given me!! Would be cool to data log some differences vs a stock 350 both straight line and track.

Mattmahope
Unfortunately not. The car has been massively delayed, which has meant I have now even had to start cancelling track days that I had booked for this summer, starting with Snetterton next week. I am hopeful that it won’t be too much longer now, but I’m not holding my breath...
Mattmahope
At least the colour looks amazing! It’s hard to capture properly on camera, but having seen it in the flesh, I’m really happy with my choice of Rosso Competizione, and I think it will look great once it is finally completed. Just trying to stay patient, but it is very hard!
