Steve V8 1,310
Has anyone frozen their hubs and heated their rear wheel bearings to help with refitting. I've had to cut the old inner races off the hubs today, those bearing are certainly tight on the hubs, so I don't want to damage the new bearings by forcing them on. I've read about freezing the hubs a sticking the bearings in the oven, does anyone know the max temperature you can get away with without damaging the seals?
Barrykearley 6,855
Don’t start cooking bearings like bushes when I did the S4 - simply pressed it back together on the press 1 Quote Only here once
Sparky 2,833
It's quite common to cut inner races off, on many cars. No need for heating/cooling to refit these. 1 Quote British Fart to Florida, Nude to New York, Dunce to Denmark, Numpty to Newfoundland. And Shitfaced Silly Sod to Sweden. Other way around! I did as it seemed correct advice at the time and they dropped right in. Quite a low temp for the hub IIRC. Kids tea was in there anyway........ Froze the bearings 36hours. Tip - keep the old bearings as they are exactly the right size for next time! Quote "Intellectuals solve problems; geniuses prevent them." Albert Einstein

I wouldn't heat the bearing, you'll melt all the pre packed grease. Quote Cheers, John W http://jonwatkins.co.uk

Sparky 2,833
And now G cars are being confused with S cars. Entirely different. Sounds like I'm overthinking it, I'll just press it on. 2
Steve V8 1,310
It's on no dramas at all. I must have read something in the past relating to S1/S2 bearings.
