SH
Tyre-tech moves pretty fast, and it seems that there are very few current reviews for winter tyres for lightweight high-powered RWD cars. So as the UK winter approaches I thought I'd ask for folks thoughts on whats currently available. Any stand-out performers? Bravo73
His next review is going to be about dedicated winter tyres, I think.

The OP seems to be looking for the most recent ‘tech’.
SH
Cheers for the heads-up regarding the tyre sale @Bibs. Unfortunately I would need 19/20" tyres. Thanks also for the link to your tyre test - good reading, but as @Bravo73 says, I'm looking for more current reviews. Seems there's not a great deal of choice out there in the Lotus recommended Winter-Tyre sizes of 225/35 R19 and 255/35 R20. The Yoko's they recommend are also discontinued. I'm now wondering if Winter-Tyres might be overkill as we probably only see a handful of days a year where a full-on Winter-Tyre would be essential. Perhaps, I'll just get a set of premium All-Season tyres and study the weather forecasts a little more closely before picking up the Lotus keys. It's just those damn (very few!) days when the forecast suggests it will be clear, so you take the car to work...and then it drops a few inches of the white stuff just before it's time to head for home! mik
If I was to put winters in the Evora (and I almost certainly won’t - despite MPSS being horrible in colder temps) i’d throw a set of Vredstein WintracS on. oem size 235/35 fronts at £150 each in Camskill. 275/30 rears are £200. (Other sellers are available) Never seen a bad review of them - which is why I recently ordered a set for Mrs mik’s f-pace. Currently in the shed for a few more weeks.... It's the ambient temperature that drives what a winter tyre 'really is' - below 7 degrees your normal tyre does not perform as well, the compound just does not provide as much grip and you'll get increased wear as a result...Factor in their better water dispersion / resistance to aqua planing and improved 'snow grip'
Bravo73
Here is your answer, @SH: Continental WinterContact TS860S: (FWIW, my Evora winter wheels have got the previous generation TS830P on & @JAWS can attest to how effective they are in the cold).
SH
Cheers @Bravo73 I'd read good things about the TS850/TS860 range
electro_boy
What would be better for someone living in the South of England, all season or proper winter tyre? We don't get too much snow over here so its mainly the lower temperatures that I'd like to swap my tyres for. Wondering if an all season tyre would work better with the South England winter climate? Bravo73
If you don’t want to swap wheels/tyres, I’d go for an All Season like the Michelin Crossclimate +. However, your outright ‘summer performance’ will be compromised slightly. (I’ve got a set on my daily M3). If you’re up for swapping, you’d be better with a dedicated summer performance tyre (PS4S) and a decent UHP winter tyre (Continental TS860S). Steffen_Leitgeb-LSWGmbh
I found the 18/19 Yokohama setup 215 / 255 setup on my S really good. Even on dry tarmac they worked very well on the simple forged 18/19" Lotus rims. I think it is most important that the rims do not change the geo. The slim tyres work okay then. Is there a suitable Yokohama solution for 19/20 available at all? The 400s will need these, right? I would always recommend a true winter tyre, as I am located in Germany. In a region with normally no snow but I really prefer the winter rubber compound to get good grip always. Shortens the brake distances below 5° centigrade. And much cheaper than a bent chassis.
