hi bill and welcome

first of all does the car run ok in every other way ,assuming it does and is cranking normally when trying to hot start .when you ignition on the ecm performs a self check if all is well you should hear the fuel pumps run for a couple of seconds if you hear the pumps run but engine wont start your problem is probably ignition related ie plugs, leads, coils(not uncommon for the original bosch coils to crack and breakdown)odb diagnostics is of course a godsend unfortunatly not got one yet but!but!but! i do live in manchester(worsley area) do have av8 gt and a blonde so pm me if you need to get together for some help

Hi Bill,

I live on Wirral which is about 50 miles from you. I have a OBDII cable which you can hook up to your car if you wish?

Also Jeff Hooper lives in Manchester and has a OBDII cable too!

I think it's your temperature engine sensor myself. There's a possibility of coils but I think by now they would also start to make the car run rough or not at all with misfires etc.

Having checked the manual the engine coolant temp sensor is part number

If the car crank, the engine is hot but will not start, chances are... its a leaky injectors (more than one).

If the fuel pump is at fault, you will never survive and will not get to where you want to go. If the coil is at fault (hot & boiling), you will not survive either. So, its not the fuel pump or coil.

When you stop the car, the fuel system is pressurized, will dump raw fuel in the cylinders. You cannot start the car until the raw fuel disipates.

Other area to look is vapor lock.
