Citroen Gearbox - Is This True ?

Recommended Posts

I was told today by a friend who used to run a Citroen dealership that the gearbox used in the Esprit was the same one used in the corrugated iron sided Citroen vans.

Can someone confirm or discredit that?

I thought it came from the Citroen SM / Maserati Bora but he says it's heritage goes back to more humble origins !!

Isn't it funny how people like to take a 'knocking' view of some of the components in the Esprit.

They remember that the gearbox was used in some vans but forget that it was used on other Supercars.

They remember that the door handles on the X180 were used on a Morris Marina, but forget they were used on a Rolls Royce too.

People do like a good old jibe.

Could it be that they're just a tad envious and are desperate to try to 'wind up' people who own a car they'd very much like themselves.

It's a funny old world.

Alan,

He wasn't having a dig at all, just stating what he believed to be a fact ... and emphasising how ahead of their time Citroen were in days gone by.

Since selling his dealership he potters about in semi-retirement fixing and doing up a few cars.

He's just completed a lovely restoration of an MGA for his son and is now starting on a Porsche 356 for a mutual friend.

He's been around cars for some long time and raced saloon cars in the 60's alongside Jack Sears amongst others.

He's probably forgotten more about these cars than most of us remember.
