Has Anybody Ever Fitted A Hidden Aerial?

Recommended Posts

I presume that because the esprit is fibreglass it's quite feasible to fit a hidden radio aerial - I was thinking of inside the A post (by the side of the windscreen). Has anybody ever done this? If so which type of aerial is best?

Thanks, Paul.

My S2 has exactly this. It was installed by previous owner Malc Holmes (Espritism) so although I don't have any details you could PM him mentioning my car?

Regards

Mat

My turbo has one in the A pillar, not the side with all the electricsl connections.

It's a flexible one, I guess that means you don't have to get the angle of the mounting plate spot on.

One problem though...... grounding. they need an antenna and a horizontal ground plate to work propperly. On the roof mounted ones I'm not sure what they do (could be like my Excel was, aluminium foil bonded to the inside surface) but I'm sure they do something, for the wing (fender) mounted ones I have no idea what could be done.

Ah yes I hadn't considered the effects of not having a big ground plane under the aerial - I'm tempted to try it with just a piece of wire :respect:

Cheers, Paul.

I've just done this on my S2. Just got a flat windscreen arial from Halfords and hid it behind the sunvisor trim panel, this then connects to the earth point behind the passengers head whilst the signal cable runs down behind "A" pilar trim. Simple, worked fine.
